Mechanical Biomimetic Nanocomposites for Multidimensional Treatment of Arterial Thrombosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a mechanical biomimetic nanocomposite is developed, guided by photoacoustic imaging, to achieve highly efficient and safe thrombolysis through the synergistic effects of photothermal therapy and pharmacological intervention. Most notably, the nanoparticle improves the microenvironment of arterial thrombi, marked by high shear stress and ...

A Model for Compression-Weakening Materials and the Elastic Fields due to Contractile Cells [PDF]

open access: yesP. Rosakis, J. Notbohm,G. Ravichandran, A Model for Compression-Weakening Materials and the Elastic Fields due to Contractile Cells, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, vol. 85 pp. 16-32 (2015), 2014
We construct a homogeneous, nonlinear elastic constitutive law, that models aspects of the mechanical behavior of inhomogeneous fibrin networks. Fibers in such networks buckle when in compression. We model this as a loss of stiffness in compression in the stress-strain relations of the homogeneous constitutive model.

Augmentation of interdental papilla with platelet-rich fibrin

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2018
Dental esthetics has become a great concern for both dental practitioners and patients in addition to maintaining oral health. The presence of interproximal papillae between the maxillary anterior teeth is a key esthetic component. Recession of interdental papilla leads to various functional problems such as food impaction, phonetics and esthetic ...

Designed Biomaterial‐Enhanced Cell Transplantation for Neural Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Biomaterials offer a promising solution for cell transplantation in the central nervous system by creating a protective environment that enhances cell survival, integration, and functional recovery in preclinical models of neurological disorders. ABSTRACT Cell transplantation therapy in the central nervous system is hindered by limited survival and ...

Hydrogel‐Based Smart Materials for Wound Healing and Sensing

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates the role of hydrogel‐based flexible materials in advancing biomedical applications, including wound healing, point‐of‐care diagnostics, smart patches, and wearable devices. Hydrogels are particularly promising in modern wound care due to their high‐water content, flexibility, and biocompatibility.

Multiscale Network Model for Fibrin Fibers and Fibrin Clot with Protofibril Binding Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The multiscale behavior of the individual fibrin fibers and fibrin clots is modeled by coupling atomistic simulation data and microscopic experimental data. We propose a protofibril element made up of nonlinear spring network, constructed based on the molecular simulation and atomic force microscopy results to simulate the force extension behavior of ...

Bioelectronics with Topological Crosslinked Networks for Tactile Perception

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
The recent advances in 3 different topological crosslinked networks are summarized, focusing on their assembly methods, structural characteristics, and device performance decoupling. Also, the ionic and electronic transport mechanisms, which provide insights into ionic‐electronic coupling, are elaborated.

Effects of leukocyte–platelet-rich fibrin and advanced platelet-rich fibrin on the viability and migration of human gingival fibroblasts

open access: yesJournal of Indian Society of Periodontology, 2020
Platelet products play a fundamental role in the process of healing. The new generation of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), namely advanced PRF (A-PRF), has different biological and mechanical properties compared to those of leukocyte-PRF (L-PRF). This study aimed to compare the effects of L-PRF and A-PRF on the viability and migration of human gingival ...

Association of Synovial Innate Immune Exhaustion With Worse Pain in Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Uncontrolled pain remains a major clinical challenge in the management of knee osteoarthritis (OA), the most common disabling joint disease. Worse pain is associated with synovial innate immune cell infiltration (synovitis), but the role of innate immune‐regulatory cells in pain is unknown. Our objective was to identify synovial innate immune

Foam-like compression behavior of fibrin networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The rheological properties of fibrin networks have been of long-standing interest. As such there is a wealth of studies of their shear and tensile responses, but their compressive behavior remains unexplored. Here, by characterization of the network structure with synchronous measurement of the fibrin storage and loss moduli at increasing degrees of ...
