Extracellular vesicles in ageing cold‐stored whole blood may not compensate for the decreasing haemostatic function in vitro

open access: yesTransfusion Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have procoagulative properties. As EVs are known to accumulate in stored blood products, we compared the EV content and coagulation capacity of leukoreduced cold‐stored whole blood (CSWB) with current prehospital and in‐hospital component therapies to understand the role of EVs in the haemostatic ...

Longitudinal Proteomic Profiling of Cognition across an Aerobic Exercise Intervention

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 97, Issue 5, Page 1007-1018, May 2025.
The physiological basis of cognitive decline remains largely uncharacterized. We identified a protein panel signature, in living humans, that correlates to improvement in neurocognition over a period of 5 years. Our signature is composed of complement proteins, coagulation cascade, and extracellular matrix regulators.

Autologous Nonmyeloablative Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Diffuse Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis: Identifying Disease Risk Factors for Toxicity and Long‐Term Outcomes in a Prospective, Single‐Arm Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Volume 77, Issue 5, Page 571-581, May 2025.
Objective Two randomized trials for patients with diffuse systemic sclerosis (SSc) demonstrated an overall survival (OS) and event‐free survival (EFS) advantage of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) using CD34+ selected peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) compared with monthly cyclophosphamide (CY).

PRP or not PRP: Is the debate surrounding platelets‐based blood‐derived products evolving?

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Volume 33, Issue 5, Page 1920-1924, May 2025.
Abstract The increasing interest in biologic treatments for musculoskeletal disorders has led to the advancement of orthobiologics, particularly in non‐operative care through injectable therapies. However, defining these treatments clearly is crucial for proper clinical application.
