The role of the mean platelet volume and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in peritonsillar abscesses,

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology
Introduction: Peritonsillar abscess is a serious infectious disease of the tonsillar tissue. Treatment generally requires both medical and surgical approaches to relieve the symptoms. Recently, in addition to clinical follow-up, some inflammatory markers,

Programmable Semi‐Interpenetrating Living Materials With Robust Stability for Versatile Bioremediation and Biotherapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A semi‐interpenetrating engineered living material (sIHSELM), fabricated via thermosensitive hydroxybutyl chitosan and covalent protein self‐assembly, demonstrates exceptional mechanical properties and environmental stability. Shielding bacteria from harsh conditions, sIHSELM exhibits remarkable efficacy in ulcerative colitis treatment and pollutants ...

Senomorphic Small Extracellular Vesicles Delivered by a Tissue‐Adhesive α‐Lipoic‐Acid Hydrogel Enable Immuno‐Rejuvenation for Bone‐Tendon Interface Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work identifies M1 macrophage‐mediated inflammation as a key driver of BMSC senescence and bone microstructural deterioration at the enthesis. A tissue‐adhesive hydrogel delivering senomorphic small extracellular vesicles suppresses this inflammatory‐senescent cascade and enhances BMSC resilience by inhibiting the cGAS‐STING‐NF‐κB pathway.

Assessment of patients with platelet to white blood cell ratio associated with long term adverse outcomes in patients with acute deterioration of chronic liver disease presenting in Tertiary Care Hospital of Karachi, Pakistan.

open access: yesThe Professional Medical Journal
Objective: To determine the low and high values of platelet to white blood cell ratio (PWR) in patients experiencing acute deterioration of chronic liver disease (CLD) at a tertiary care hospital and assess their association with predicting long-term (28-day) adverse outcomes such as death. Stud Design: Cross-sectional study.

Seedless One‐Pot Synthesis of Colloidal InAs Quantum Dots Enabling a High‐Accuracy Photoplethysmography Oximeter

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A real‐time, non‐contact photoplethysmography (PPG) system based on InAs colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) synthesized via a seedless injection synthesis is demonstrated. The measured oxygen saturation shows considerable agreement with commercial PPG devices.

Tumor‐Induced Splenic Remodeling: Mechanisms of Systemic Immunosuppression and Emerging Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the transformative impact of cancer immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint blockade, durable clinical responses remain limited. Increasing evidence indicates that antitumor immunity is governed not only by the tumor microenvironment, but also by systemic immune regulation mediated by peripheral immune organs. Among these, the spleen

Ligation of protease-activated receptor 1 enhances alpha(v)beta(6) integrin-dependent TGF-beta activation and promotes acute lung injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Activation of latent TGF-beta by the alpha(v)beta(6) integrin is a critical step in the development of acute lung injury. However, the mechanism by which a alpha(v)beta(6)-mediated TGF-beta activation is regulated has not been identified.

Advanced Dental Composite Technology via Bisilanized Dual‐Action Nanofillers for Biofilm Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal research strategy has led to the development of an innovative resin‐based composite (RBC) with dual antibacterial action. The S_CM‐RBC formula showed strong antibiofilm activity, excellent mechanical strength, and biosafety. It effectively controlled oral bacteria in prevention of caries recurrence, and maintained pulp health in a rat ...
