3D In Vitro Models of Breast Cancer: Current Challenges and Future Prospects Toward Recapitulating the Microenvironment and Mimicking Key Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
In vitro cancer models are advantageous for studying important processes such as tumorigenesis, cancer growth, invasion, and metastasis. The complexity and biological relevance increase depending on the model structure, organization, and composition of materials and cells.

Food-specific serum IgG and symptom reduction with a personalized, unrestricted-calorie diet of six weeks in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

open access: yesNutrition & Metabolism, 2020
Background Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a widespread disease with variable symptoms that have an important impact on the quality of life. Despite the prevalence of IBS, its etiology and pathophysiology are still to be fully understood, but immune ...

Contribution of the Platelet Factor V Content to Platelet Factor 3 Activity [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, 1980
Summary. The procoagulant activity obtained from bovine thrombocytes has been compared to that of lipids isolated from platelets, with and without the addition of purified bovine factor V. A one‐stage assay, which consisted of delipidated bovine plasma containing RVV‐activated factor X, was used to assess the activity.

PAR1 Agonists Stimulate APC-Like Endothelial Cytoprotection and Confer Resistance to Thromboinflammatory Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Stimulation of protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) on endothelium by activated protein C (APC) is protective in several animal models of disease, and APC has been used clinically in severe sepsis and wound healing.

Optimized Cell‐Based Platform for Platelet‐Free Detection of Heparin‐Induced Thrombocytopenia Antibodies

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study optimized a cell‐based ELISA for HIT antibody detection using PF4‐coated breast cancer cells (MDA‐MB‐231). Enhanced binding was observed at 50 mM NaCl and 4% paraformaldehyde fixation. Live MDA‐MB‐231 and HCT‐116 cells demontrated superior sensitivity and specificity, providing a promising platelet‐free alternative for clinical HIT diagnosis.

Enzymatic activity of the human 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate-O-acyltransferase isoform 11: upregulated in breast and cervical cancers[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2010
The conversion of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) to phosphatidic acid is carried out by the microsomal enzymes 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate-O-acyltransferases (AGPATs).

Specific binding of phospholipid platelet-activating factor by human platelets.

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 1982
The binding of the phospholipid platelet-activating factor 1-O-hexadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (AGEPC) to washed human platelets was more than 80% complete within 2 min, which coincided with the time of initiation of platelet ...

Overexpression of Na+/Mg2+ exchanger SLC41A1 attenuates pro-survival signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The Na+/Mg2+ exchanger SLC41A1 (A1), a key component of intracellular Mg homeostasis (IMH), is the major cellular Mg2+ efflux system, and its overexpression decreases [Mg2+]intracellular.

Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Ginkgolide B inhibits the neurotoxicity of prions or amyloid-β1-42

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2004
Background Neuronal loss in Alzheimer's or prion diseases is preceded by the accumulation of fibrillar aggregates of toxic proteins (amyloid-β1-42 or the prion protein).
