Platelet Activity in Washed Platelet Concentrates

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2004
Life-threatening anaphylaxis or febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions after transfusion of platelet concentrates (PCs) is a serious clinical problem caused by the sensitizing of recipients to plasma components, such as immunoglobulin A, or by cytokines. There is a possible indication for washing of PCs in these thrombocytopenic patients.

Quality of Platelet Concentrates

Immunological Investigations, 1995
Despite the current emphasis in transfusion medicine on regulatory compliance and cost containment, there is continuing activity in quality improvement of blood products. Quality can be assessed by measuring both benefit and risk. High quality products are those in which the benefit is maximized and the risk minimized.

Storage of Platelet Concentrates

Transfusion, 1976
The American National Red Cross has initiated a cooperative clinical study designed to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of fresh platelets and platelets stored at 4 or 22 C for up to 72 hours. Preliminary results, in confirmation of earlier work, indicate an inverse relationship between platelet count and bleeding time in patients with ...

Platelet‐derived extracellular vesicles convey mitochondrial DAMPs in platelet concentrates and their levels are associated with adverse reactions

Transfusion, 2019
Whereas platelet transfusion is a common medical procedure, inflammation still occurs in a fraction of transfused individuals despite the absence of any apparent infectious agents. Platelets can shed membrane vesicles, called extracellular vesicles (EVs),

Platelet counting using plasma platelet concentrate samples

Transfusion Medicine, 1992
SUMMARY. Platelet counting using samples of plasma from platelet concentrates prepared for transfusion was assessed. The methods employed included a manual phase‐contrast method, and counting with Coulter S Plus and Sysmex E‐2500 counters. All methods were reproducible (mean CV of 4.9, 2.2 and 1.4%, respectively).

Efficacy of Autologous Platelet Concentrates in Regenerative Endodontic Treatment: A Systematic Review of Human Studies

Journal of Endodontics, 2019
Introduction The latest research concerns the use of platelet concentrates, which are introduced into the root canal. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of platelet‐rich fibrin and platelet‐rich plasma in regenerative endodontics ...

In vitro quality and platelet function of cold and delayed cold storage of apheresis platelet concentrates in platelet additive solution for 21 days

Transfusion, 2019
Cold storage of platelets may extend shelf life compared to room temperature storage. This study aimed to investigate in vitro platelet quality and function in cold‐stored and delayed‐cold‐stored nonagitated apheresis platelets in platelet additive ...

Preparation of Platelet Concentrates

2011
Platelets are specialized blood cells that play central roles in physiologic and pathologic processes of hemostasis, wound healing, host defense, thrombosis, inflammation, and tumor metastasis. Activation of platelets is crucial for platelet function that includes a complex interplay of adhesion, signaling molecules, and release of bioactive factors ...

Monocyte Activation in Platelet Concentrates

Vox Sanguinis, 1998
Abstract Background and Objectives: Cytokines in platelet concentrates contribute to febrile transfusion reactions. Activated monocytes are a major source of inflammatory cytokines, however the role of monocytes in cytokine production in platelet concentrates has not been clarified.
