Experimental infection of horses with African horse sickness virus results in overt disseminated intravascular coagulation

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background African horse sickness (AHS), caused by the vector‐borne African horse sickness virus (AHSV), is endemic to sub‐Saharan Africa and infection results in high mortality in naïve equine populations. Clinical signs include submucosal petechiae and prolonged bleeding post venepuncture indicative of hypocoagulation.

Reduced Dietary Protein Induces Changes in the Dental Proteome

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
Low dietary protein (10%) from normal (20%) does change protein expression in tooth proteome and alter developmental pathways. Among the significant protein expressions changes are actin‐based myosins, tooth, and bone development proteins. Perplexingly tooth size is not altered, suggesting more nuanced phenotypic response to low dietary protein in ...

Palatal pre‐suturing effects on hemostasis and morbidity in connective tissue grafting: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The study aimed to assess the impact of palatal pre‐suturing on bleeding, postoperative morbidity, wound healing, and quality of life following subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) surgery through a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Augmentation of interdental papilla with platelet-rich fibrin

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2018
Dental esthetics has become a great concern for both dental practitioners and patients in addition to maintaining oral health. The presence of interproximal papillae between the maxillary anterior teeth is a key esthetic component. Recession of interdental papilla leads to various functional problems such as food impaction, phonetics and esthetic ...

The influence of flap design on the relevance of biomaterials in regenerative periodontal surgery

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The aim of this systematic review was to explore whether the benefits of biomaterials in periodontal regenerative/reconstructive surgery are affected by the type of flap employed. The study addresses the existing gap in the evidence to substantiate the beneficial effect of minimal invasive periodontal surgical approach compared to a

Understanding Platelet-Rich Fibrin

open access: yes, 2021
Study 6: Tunali et al. Improving PRF membrane mechanical strength through change in material characterization and an introduction to titanium-PRF(T-PRF) tubes.Titanium represents an extremely bioinert material with excellent hydrophilic properties. In addition, titanium is resistant to corrosion and has the property of osteointegration. Because of this

Mineral‐targeted alkaline phosphatase improves bone graft‐mediated alveolar bone defect healing in mice

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Alveolar bone loss challenges tooth retention and implant placement. Freeze‐dried bone allograft (FDBA) is widely used for alveolar ridge preservation but has limitations in resorption rate and healing time. In this proof‐of‐concept study, we tested whether pro‐mineralization enzyme, tissue‐nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP ...

Evaluation of histological and pH changes in platelet-rich fibrin and platelet-rich fibrin matrix: A In vitro study

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2019
Background: The autologous platelet concentrates (PCs), such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM), are processed through different centrifugation protocols, which can affect their biological properties and in turn ...
