A Wigner-Seitz model of charged lamellar colloidal dispersions [PDF]
A concentrated suspension of lamellar colloidal particles (e. g. clay) is modelled by considering a single, uniformly charged, finite platelet confined with co- and counterions to a Wigner-Seitz (WS) cell. The system is treated within Poisson-Boltzmann theory, with appropriate boundary conditions on the surface of the WS cell, supposed to account for ...

Platelet Transfusion and Hemorrhage [PDF]
Recently, two prospective randomized multicenter studies on hypoproliferative thrombocytopenia compared prophylactic transfusion of platelet concentrates below a threshold of 10 000/μL with therapeutic platelet transfusions only, administered at onset of hemorrhages other than mucocutaneous bleeding (1, 2).

Transfusão de plaquetas: do empirismo ao embasamento científico [PDF]
Despite major advances in Brazilian blood transfusion therapy with a growing number of scientific publications, an increased number of repeat donors and a decline in serological ineligibility, a lack of conformity in the application of pre-transfusion ...

Effect of Platelet Transfusions on Extracorporeal Life Support Oxygenator’s Function
ObjectiveBleeding is a common complication of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), leading to increased mortality. Since one of its main complications is bleeding, platelet transfusions are frequently prescribed for children on ECMO.

Auto-assemblies of Alpha-Cyclodextrin and Grafted Polysaccharides: Crystal Structure and Specific Properties of the Platelets [PDF]
Cyclodextrins (CD) are a family of oligosaccharides with a toroid shape, which exhibit a remarkable ability to include guest molecules in their internal cavity providing a hydrophobic environment for poorly soluble molecules. Recently new types of inclusions of alpha CD with alkyl grafted polysaccharide chains (pullulan, chitosan, dextran, amylopectin,
