Bulk fluid phase behaviour of colloidal platelet-sphere and platelet-polymer mixtures [PDF]
Using a geometry-based fundamental measure density functional theory, we calculate bulk fluid phase diagrams of colloidal mixtures of vanishingly thin hard circular platelets and hard spheres. We find isotropic-nematic phase separation with strong broadening of the biphasic region upon increasing the pressure.

TransFusion: Generating Long, High Fidelity Time Series using Diffusion Models with Transformers [PDF]
The generation of high-quality, long-sequenced time-series data is essential due to its wide range of applications. In the past, standalone Recurrent and Convolutional Neural Network-based Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) were used to synthesize time-series data. However, they are inadequate for generating long sequences of time-series data due to

All clinically-relevant blood components transmit prion disease following a single blood transfusion: a sheep model of vCJD [PDF]
Variant CJD (vCJD) is an incurable, infectious human disease, likely arising from the consumption of BSE-contaminated meat products. Whilst the epidemic appears to be waning, there is much concern that vCJD infection may be perpetuated in humans by the ...

Platelet transfusion refractoriness [PDF]
SummaryThe platelet, a fascinating anucleate cell, is critically important for haemostasis. Platelet transfusions have greatly reduced the incidence of major haemorrhagic complications associated with the management of haematological and oncological disorders. However, some patients fail to receive the full benefit of platelet transfusions because they

Transfusion of a universal platelet product in hematologic patients for emergency
Objective To explore the clinical application of a universal platelet product for emergency, which was prepared by suspending O-type apheresis platelet concentrate in AB-type fresh frozen plasma, so as to improve the platelet support ability in emergency

Effects of Average Number of Platelets Through the Thickness and Platelet Width on the Mechanical Properties of Discontinuous Fiber Composites [PDF]
In this study, we experimentally and numerically investigate the evolution of the tensile material properties of Discontinuous Fiber Composites (DFCs) with an increasing average number of platelets through the thickness for two different platelet widths.

The calibration plots of the updated risk models for the endpoints were analyzed in each cohort. The predicted probability of each endpoint matched the observed probability in the development and validation cohorts. Abstract Aim Risk prediction models for mortality, severe postoperative complications, and postoperative pancreatic fistula in patients ...

This study showed that estimated BL (e‐BL) was significantly greater than intraoperative BL(i‐BL) in cases of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP), and that e‐BL was significantly less than i‐BL in cases of open DP (ODP), only among patients with pancreatic cancer.

Platelet antibodies in immune thrombocytopenia and related conditions
Platelet autoantibodies are a common finding in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and in rare cases of antibody-mediated platelet function (“acquired thrombasthenia”).
