Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain leading causes of death worldwide. While platelet-mediated thrombus formation following the rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque is one of the key pathophysiologic events in CVDs, the role of platelets in previous or

In thyroid cancer patients, high‐dose (≥7.4 GBq) radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) was associated with a higher prevalence of clonal hematopoiesis (variant allele frequency >2%) in individuals aged ≥50 years (OR = 2.44). In silico analyses showed that truncating PPM1D mutations conferred a selective advantage under these conditions.

Aquaporins in platelet function
Structurally, aquaporins (AQPs) are small channel proteins with monomers of ~ 30 kDa that are assembled as tetramers to form pores on cell membranes. Aquaporins mediate the conduction of water but at times also small solutes including glycerol across ...

Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Moisture absorption and diffusivity of epoxy filled layered-structure nanocomposite [PDF]
This paper studies moisture absorption and diffusivity of epoxy reinforced layered structure nanocomposites and its effect on fracture toughness. Two different types of layered fillers employed in the study were clay and graphene platelets, in which both

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) rarely complicates acute inflammatory conditions such as surgery, including post-cardiac surgery. Review of 32 previously-reported cases of post-cardiac surgery TTP indicates that this disorder often occurs as ...

Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.

Pericytes change function depending on glioblastoma vicinity: emphasis on immune regulation
Pericytes alter their transcriptome depending on their proximity to the tumor core. In the tumor core, pericytes display a more active state with higher communication strength but with lower immune activation potential and a shift toward extracellular matrix production.

Non-Linear Poisson-Boltzmann Theory of a Wigner-Seitz Model for Swollen Clays
Swollen stacks of finite-size disc-like Laponite clay platelets are investigated within a Wigner-Seitz cell model. Each cell is a cylinder containing a coaxial platelet at its centre, together with an overall charge-neutral distribution of microscopic co

Connectedness percolation of hard convex polygonal rods and platelets [PDF]
The properties of polymer composites with nanofiller particles change drastically above a critical filler density known as the percolation threshold. Real nanofillers, such as graphene flakes and cellulose nanocrystals, are not idealized disks and rods ...
