Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Calix[4]arene-Based Amino Extractants Containing n-Alkyl Moieties for Separation of Pd(II) and Pt(IV) from Leach Liquors of Automotive Catalysts

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Pt, Pd, and Rh platinum group metals (PGMs) are utilized in automotive catalytic converters to reduce the level of harmful gas emissions. To evaluate the separation efficiencies of PGMs from the leach liquors of automotive catalysts, their ...

Collaborative model development increases trust in and use of scientific information in environmental decision-making [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
While science matters for environmental management, creating science that is credible, salient to decision-makers, and deemed legitimate by stakeholders is challenging.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

DNA damage response and repair gene mutations are associated with tumor mutational burden and outcomes to platinum-based chemotherapy/immunotherapy in advanced NSCLC patients

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology, 2023
Background DNA damage response and repair (DDR) genes are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the genome. This study aims to explore the correlation of DDR gene mutations with TMB, clinical characteristics, and outcomes to platinum-based ...

Platinum City and the New South African Dream [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Much has been written about the persistence of economic apartheid inscribed on the geography of South Africa’s cities. This has intensified fragmentation, producing spatial configurations that are at once reminiscent of the old order of segregation, and

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
