To be or not to be a flatworm: the acoel controversy.
Since first described, acoels were considered members of the flatworms (Platyhelminthes). However, no clear synapomorphies among the three large flatworm taxa -- the Catenulida, the Acoelomorpha and the Rhabditophora -- have been characterized to date ...

Neuropeptides in platyhelminths
The neuropeptide story began in 1928 with the description by Ernst Scharrer of gland-like nerve cells in the hypothalamus of the minnow,Phoxinus laevis.Because these nerve cells were overwhelmingly specialized for secretory activity, overshadowing other neuronal properties, Scharrer termed them ‘neurosecretory neurons’.

We describe Salmacina stellaebayensis n. sp. from Mauritania's Baie de l'Étoile and provide the first complete mitochondrial genome for the genus Salmacina. The species forms distinctive macroid colonies in Cymodocea nodosa seagrass meadows, offering new insights into serpulid life history and habitat specialization.

Diversity of introduced terrestrial flatworms in the Iberian Peninsula: a cautionary tale [PDF]
Many tropical terrestrial planarians (Platyhelminthes, Geoplanidae) have been introduced around the globe. One of these species is known to cause significant decline in earthworm populations, resulting in a reduction of ecological functions that ...
