Integrating triple attention convolutional network with multi‐objective optimization for excavation‐induced deformation prediction

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 29, Page 5534-5553, 9 December 2025.
Abstract Accurate and rapid prediction of deep excavation deformation is crucial for construction safety and environmental protection. Traditional finite element analysis is time‐consuming, while single‐objective optimization (SOO) tends to cause parameter compensation effects.

Settlement Analysis of a Large Pile Group Supporting an LNG Storage Tank

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 49, Issue 16, Page 3858-3879, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks are often supported by large pile groups (>100 piles). The design of such foundations is generally governed by settlement rather than bearing capacity. However, minimal information is available regarding the settlement performance of the LNG tank foundations. This article first presents a comprehensive

Kinematic Limit Analysis of Roof Stability for Elliptical Tunnels in Rock Masses

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 49, Issue 16, Page 3880-3896, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Noncircular cross‐sections are commonly encountered in engineering practice; however, primary attempts to analyze roof stability have focused on circular and rectangular configurations. This study investigates the roof stability of elliptical tunnels with varying aspect ratios, employing two semi‐analytical approaches: piecewise linear and ...

Seismic performance of concrete tunnel–sand–pile interaction by the shake table test

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 461-481, September 2025.
This research presents the square root sum of squares response of displacements and tunnel moments under the Kobe and Loma Prieta seismic excitations with a peak ground acceleration of 0.05 g for various dry relative densities of local sand in Bangladesh.

Learning loads on in‐service underground infrastructure with a trans‐dimensional Bayesian inversion method

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 23, Page 3750-3772, 19 September 2025.
Abstract Monitoring external loads on underground structures is crucial for structural health assessment. Inverting earth pressures from observable structural responses, such as deformation data, holds promise. However, existing methods often rely on presumptions about pressure complexity, which can be infeasible for many poorly performing in‐service ...

Comparative 2D Finite Element Analysis of Soil–Cement Block and Column Reinforcements for Deep Excavation Support

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2025.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of soil–cement reinforcement configurations in deep excavations using 2D FEM analysis. It investigates two different approaches to represent soil–cement reinforcement and compares them, showing that blocks reduce lateral deflections by 60%–64% and bending moments by 22% compared to columns.

Photogrammetric documentation in tunneling

open access: yesCivil Engineering Design, Volume 7, Issue 2, Page 85-92, June 2025.
Abstract Photogrammetric surveys for geological excavation documentation are standard practice in tunnel construction, benefiting from the sector's ongoing digitalization. However, the application of photogrammetry often remains confined to geological assessments. By creating comprehensive 3D models of excavated tunnels, it is also possible to evaluate
