Dynamic sex-specific responses to synthetic songs in a duetting suboscine passerine. [PDF]
Many bird species produce temporally coordinated duets and choruses, requiring the rapid integration of auditory perception and motor production. While males and females of some species are known to participate in these displays for sex-specific purposes,

Passive Acoustic Identification of Social Groups in the Hainan Gibbon
Passive acoustic monitoring offers a non‐invasive means of assessing visually hard‐to‐survey wildlife species with distinctive vocalizations. We evaluated whether deep learning can identify Hainan gibbon (Nomascus hainanus) social groups from their calls.

Wolves have reclaimed much of their former range in Europe, including areas with a high human footprint, yet the physiological impacts of human‐associated stressors remain poorly understood. We first examined methodological factors affecting hair cortisol concentrations (HCC) in wolves by using a ‘shave/re‐shave' design to assess hair growth rate and ...

Context‐Dependent Reactive Antipredator Behavior of Chacma Baboons (Papio ursinus griseipes) Amidst Predator Recovery [PDF]
Chacma baboons exhibited context‐dependent flight and vigilance behavior in response to experimental predator vocalizations in Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park. Reactions were strongest in juveniles and in individuals with fewer otherbaboons in frame and in response to leopard and wild dog cues, and weakened with increased exposure to predators ...

We used automated behavioral response systems (ABRs) to assess invasive wild pig (Sus scrofa) behavioral response to four auditory playbacks: humans, coyote vocalizations (Canis latrans), pigs in distress, and barred owl (Strix varia) calls. Wild pigs had a significant flight response to human playbacks, but 68% of pigs did not flee.

Common cuckoo nestlings from different populations show varying degrees of mimicry of warbler begging calls, with the Yongnianwa population being the most accurate and the Zhalong population the least. Overall, these cuckoos employ a dual strategy: they conservatively mimic the high‐frequency components of host calls while adaptively adjusting their ...
