Studying Peripheral Vascular Pulse Wave Velocity Using Bio-impedance Plethysmography and Regression Analysis

open access: yesIEEE CIT 2017, 2017
In this study, a simple bioimpedance plethysmography method was employed to measure the pulse wave velocity (PWV) from the radial artery in the wrist to the middle finger of a patient.

Acute exogenous oestradiol augments endothelial and smooth muscle vasodilatory responsiveness in premenopausal but not postmenopausal females

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 8, Page 2301-2311, 15 April 2025.
Abstract figure legend Brachial intraarterial infusion of exogenous 17β‐oestradiol augmented endothelial and smooth muscle microvascular vasodilatation in premenopausal but not postmenopausal, females. Abstract Menopause is associated with vascular dysfunction. During the menopausal transition, endogenous oestradiol concentrations diminish.

Evaluation of Electrical and Optical Plethysmography Sensors for Noninvasive Monitoring of Hemoglobin Concentration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Completely noninvasive monitoring of hemoglobin concentration has not yet been fully realized in the clinical setting. This study investigates the viability of measuring hemoglobin concentration noninvasively by evaluating the performance of two types of

Pregnancy shifts endothelial progenitor cell morphology and function: Role of metabolism, pro‐inflammatory cytokines and fetal sex

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We recruited non‐pregnant women (NP), women in early pregnancy (EP) and late pregnancy (LP) for isolation of endothelial colony forming cells (ECFCs) via density gradient centrifugation. Plasma supernatant was collected for analysis of markers of glucose and lipid metabolism (fasting glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, low ...

Accuracy of the Omron HBF-500 Body Composition Monitor in Male and Female College Students [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Omron HBF-500 is an inexpensive body composition monitor that incorporates both hand-to-hand and foot-to-foot electrical impedance technology. At this time, studies examining the accuracy of the HBF-500 when estimating percent body fat (%BF) are ...

Blood Pulsation Intensity Video Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this study, we make non-invasive, remote, passive measurements of the heart beat frequency and determine the map of blood pulsation intensity in a region of interest (ROI) of skin. The ROI used was the forearm of a volunteer. The method employs a regular video camera and visible light, and the video acquisition takes less than 1 minute.

The effect of M‐current activation on controller gain and obstructive sleep apnoea severity: a randomised controlled trial using flupirtine

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Investigating the effect of flupirtine, a KCNQ channel opener, on ventilatory control instability (i.e. loop gain) and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) severity. Left panel: high loop gain has been shown to contribute to airway collapse in patients with OSA.

Bioelectrical Impedance Versus Air-Displacement Plethysmography for Body Fat Measurements in Subjects with Abdominal Obesity: A Comparative Study

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Obesity is a disorder with an increasing prevalence, associated with cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies. The amount and the distribution pattern of adipose tissue must be considered when managing this disease.
