Elastic properties of arteries in hypertensive patients with hypertensive nephropathy and chronic stable angina

open access: yesPatologìâ, 2013
Arterial wall changes are one of the arterial hypertension (AH) earliest complications. Hypertensive nephropathy is the widespread complication of AH which makes a substantial contribution to end stage renal disease.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Overweight and Obese Children: Factors Influencing Quality of Life

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 10, Issue 3, June 2025.
Our work investigates the influence of age and gender on OSA in overweight and obese children from Jordan. In addition, we studied the impact of OSA on these children's QoL using a validated QoL tool (OSA‐18) questionnaire. ABSTRACT Introduction There is a paucity of data regarding biological sex influence and the impact of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

Segmental volume changes that occur in nonhuman primates during short term head up (HUT) and head down (HDT) tilt

open access: yesJournal of Electrical Bioimpedance, 2020
Nonhuman primates are often used in biomedical research and to investigate physiologic processes that occur in man. Impedance plethysmography was used to measure calf, thigh, pelvic, abdominal, and thoracic volume changes in ten Rhesus and eight squirrel

Streamlined Inkjet‐Printing of Stretchable Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 10, May 22, 2025.
This work introduces stretchable photodetectors fully inkjet‐printed on stretchable substrates. It is demonstrated that printed stiff platforms effectively decouple strain from the stretched substrate and serve as a chemically resistant and mechanically rigid platform.

Accuracy of Consumer Grade Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Devices Compared to Air Displacement Plethysmography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of percent body fat estimates from seven different bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) models and a seven-site skin fold formula (SKF) compared with air displacement plethysmography (ADP) in ...

A Molecularly Defined Medullary Network for Control of Respiratory Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 18, May 15, 2025.
The dynamic interplay between central respiratory chemoreceptors and the respiratory central pattern generator is essential for maintaining stable respiratory rhythm and patterns, particularly during sleep. This study offers novel insights into the anatomical, molecular, and functional characteristics of a medullary network involving the nucleus ...

A new device for measuring resting energy expenditure (REE) in healthy subjects. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Lifestyle change targeted towards increasing daily resting energy expenditure (REE) is one of the cornerstones of obesity treatment. Measurements of energy expenditure and substrate utilization are essential to understanding the metabolic basis of ...

Residual Volume and Total Lung Capacity at Diagnosis Predict Overall Survival in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 10, May 2025.
Lung volume as a part of pulmonary function test is often underrepresented in prognostic lung cancer research. In this longitudinal lung cancer patient cohort, higher residual volume to total lung capacity (RV/TLC) ratio upon diagnosis was associated with worse overall survival regardless of spirometry results or cancer stage.
