Impedance plethysmography

Equine Veterinary Journal, 1990
SummaryThe technique of impedance plethysmography is described and its application to observation of lung volume changes in the horse at exercise is discussed. The results from horse at rest show that there is a close relationship between rate of lung volume change (flow rate) and the associated impedance changes during both inspiration and expiration.

Comparison of electrical field plethysmography with electrical impedance plethysmography

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 1982
As a means for assessing cardiac function, electrical field plethysmography (EFP) has been shown to have some features quite different from electrical impedance plethysmography (EIP). Here the two techniques are compared by using the two systems simultaneously on a subject and also with independent use in different electrode configurations. The results

Venous occlusive RN plethysmography: Comparison with electrical admittance plethysmography

Journal of Biomedical Engineering, 1984
A venous occlusion plethysmography using radionuclide (RN) was introduced for the measurement of the limb blood flow. This technique, called RN plethysmography, can be carried out in a subject who has been previously administered RN intravenously for the routine angiographic examination.

Meaning of Impedance Plethysmography [PDF]

open access: possibleNature, 1967
IMPEDANCE plethysmography is a method of measuring the resistive impedance of a limb segment. Nyboer1 pointed out that the resistive impedance variation ΔR during the heart cycle is proportional to the blood volume ΔV transiently stored in the segment where ρ is the blood ...

Interpretation of pressure changes in plethysmography [PDF]

open access: possiblePhysics in Medicine & Biology, 1971
The use of a venous occlusion plethysmograph to measure blood flow changes may introduce a systematic error due to the heat transfer from the gas in the plethysmograph to the surroundings. A consideration of this prohlem shows that if blood flow is measured from the slope of the volume-time curve at time t = 0, this slope must be computed from the ...

Plethysmography

1975
Publisher Summary A plethysmograph is an instrument that measures volume or enlargement. It was originally developed to prove the isovolumetric contraction of an isolated muscle. Essentially, the technique consisted of surrounding the organ by a rigid container filled with water or air, which was prevented from escaping by the provision of water- or ...

Pitfall of Venous Occlusion Plethysmography

Angiology, 1982
The supposition that the lower limb expands uniformly in circumference during venous occlusion has been investigated. The 3 compartments of the calf were found to expand to differing degrees depending on the volume of muscle within the compartment. The effect of this phenomenon on the measurement of venous outflow and capacitance using an overlapping ...

Ureteral Plethysmography

1971
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the ureteral plethysmography. The usual air- or fluid-filled plethysmograph cannot be applied to the ureter because sealing the plethysmograph may also occlude the ureter. The device, which encircles the ureter, consists of a length of thin-walled rubber tubing contained within a hollow plastic ring. The inner

Penile Plethysmography

2014
A critical appraisal of the uses of penile plethysmography (PPG) with adolescent sexual offenders is presented. Information concerning the evolution of PPG during the past half century is reviewed, ranging from an analysis of the sexual preference hypothesis that underlies the use and development of PPG, to the psychometric properties of the PPG, as ...
