Arteriovenous Oscillometric Plethysmography for Fistula Functional Testing

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research
Introduction: The aim of the presented prospective observational study was to evaluate the effect of fistula flow on peripheral wave morphology and pulse wave velocity by means of the oscillometric Vicorder®-device with the purpose of fistula ...

Evaluation of perfusion index as an objective tool to assess analgesia during laparoscopic surgeries under general anaesthesia

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2022
Background and Aims: Changes in the sympathetic nervous system by pain can impact smooth muscle tone and can alter perfusion. This can be monitored by perfusion index (PI).

Knockdown of PHOX2B in the retrotrapezoid nucleus reduces the central CO2 chemoreflex in rats

open access: yeseLife
PHOX2B is a transcription factor essential for the development of different classes of neurons in the central and peripheral nervous system. Heterozygous mutations in the PHOX2B coding region are responsible for the occurrence of Congenital Central ...

A Tac1‐Expressing Brainstem Pathway Underlies the Pathogenesis of Trigeminal Neuralgia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A critical TG‐Sp5CTac1‐PBNTac1 pathway drives trigeminal neuropathic pain (TNP). Tac1‐expressing parabrachial nucleus (PBNTac1) neurons exhibit heightened responses to innocuous stimuli in TNP, and chemogenetic inhibition of these neurons effectively prevents TNP development.

Perfusion index as a predictor of hypotension following propofol induction - A prospective observational study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2017
Background and Aims: Hypotension during propofol induction is a common problem. Perfusion index (PI), an indicator of systemic vascular resistance, is said to be predictive of hypotension following subarachnoid block.

Respiratory‐Limbic Coupling via a Thalamic Circuit Alleviates Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delineates a conserved preBötCGlu→PVT→CeA circuit that gates anxiety and respiration. Activation of this circuit is anxiolytic and respiratory‐stabilizing, while its inhibition has the opposite effect. Mechanistically, PVT exerts its anxiolytic action via a disinhibitory microcircuit: its inputs preferentially target CeL GABAergic neurons ...

Plethysmographic Peripheral Perfusion Index: Could It Be a New Vital Sign?

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2021
The plethysmographic peripheral perfusion index (PPI) is a very useful parameter with various emerging utilities in medical practice. The PPI represents the ratio between pulsatile and non-pulsatile portions in peripheral circulation and is mainly ...

RIPK3 Orchestrates Scar‐Associated Macrophage Dysfunction to Drive Pulmonary Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Beyond signaling cell death, RIPK3 emerges as a critical metabolic regulator in pulmonary fibrosis. This research reveals that RIPK3 promotes PI3K‐AKT signaling in scar‐associated macrophages to fuel polyamine synthesis, independent of its kinase activity.
