Bioluminescence of ctenophore Pleurobrachia pileus (O. F. Müller 1776)
Since the 1980s, in the Black Sea, there has been carried out intensive research of the ctenophores. The features of their distribution over the sea areas, in connection with depth, temperature and salinity, those of nutrition, respiration and reproduction, and luminescence under experimental conditions are being investigated.

Observations on the plankton of the Cochin Backwaters [PDF]
Considerable work, both qualitative and quantitative, has been done on the plankton of Indian coastal waters in recent years. But the plankton of Indian backwaters has received little attention so far. Sewell (1913, 1924 and 1934) has studied plankton,

Evolutionary origin of synapses and neurons – Bridging the gap [PDF]
The evolutionary origin of synapses and neurons is an enigmatic subject that inspires much debate. Non-bilaterian metazoans, both with and without neurons and their closest relatives already contain many components of the molecular toolkits for ...

Ecology of gelatious plankton:With emphasis on feeding interactions, distribution pattern and reproduction biology of Mnemiopsis leidyi in the Baltic Sea [PDF]
Comb jellies were a relatively obscure group of zooplankton, until Mnemiopsis leidyi invaded the Black Sea in the 1980’s with cascading effects on several ecosystem levels including commercial fisheries.

Carbon content of Mnemiopsis leidyi eggs and specific egg production rates in northern Europe [PDF]
The comb jelly Mnemiopsis leidyi is considered to be a successful invasive species, partly due to its high reproduction potential. However, due to the absence of direct carbon measurements of eggs, specific reproduction rates remain uncertain.
