Plexiform neurofibromas

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1999
Plexiform neurofibromas are among the most common and debilitating complications of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). They account for substantial morbidity, including disfigurement, functional impairment, and may even be life threatening. Plexiform neurofibromas are also subject to transformation into malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST), a ...

Plexiform Schwannoma of the Eyelid

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2023
Plexiform schwannoma of the lacrimal gland of the palpebral lobe has not been previously described. This 41-year-old male presented with a 2-year history of a left upper eyelid mass and associated regional irritation. MRI of the head and orbits confirmed a left superolateral multinodular mass centered on the palpebral lobe of the left lacrimal gland ...

Plexiform neurofibromas in childhood

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1972
Abstract Sixteen cases of plexiform neurofibroma occurring in childhood have been discussed. Of lesions in the trunk or extremities, only two required multiple procedures, including a below-the-knee amputation. All patients are free of tumor at present, though they carry other stigmata of Von Recklinghausen's disease.

Esophageal Plexiform Schwannoma

International Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2000
We report a patient with a plexiform schwannoma located in the cervical part of the esophagus. A large pedunculated intraluminal polyp, originating in the postcricoid region and protruding into the oropharynx, was found in association with multiple submucosal nodules.

Facial plexiform neurofibroma

The Laryngoscope, 1977
AbstractFacial plexiform neurofibroma is a relatively rare manifestation of Von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis. Two patients with extensive facial tumor involvement are presented, each having undergone wide local resection after multiple previous local excisions had failed to control the tumor and its locally deforming and destructive effects.

Plexiform Schwannoma

The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 1994
We report the clinical, histopathologic, and immunohistopathologic features of two cases of plexiform schwannoma. This rare benign tumor is worthy of recognition because it can be misdiagnosed as plexiform neurofibroma. Differentiation from plexiform neurofibroma is important because the latter is pathognomonic of von Recklinghausen disease and carries

Plexiform Fibrohistiocytic Tumor

Dermatologica, 2009
Two groups of cells, one rounded or oval and the other spindle-shaped, were found in a case of plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor. Immunohistochemistry was strongly positive for alpha smooth muscle actin in most cells of both types but stronger in the spindle-shaped cells, suggesting a myofibroblastic origin.

Plexiform (multinodular) schwannoma

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1983
We describe a rare variant of schwannoma characterized by a interconnecting multinodular growth mimicking a plexiform neurofibroma. The schwannoma recurred twice. The second recurrence was not excised and has not increased in size for 1 1/2 years. The patient is alive and well, 3 years and 4 months after the first excision with no clinical evidence of ...
