Drilling the Marathousa palaeo‐lake in Greece (Peloponnese): inferring the environmental context of a Middle Pleistocene archaeological site

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Megalopolis Basin is located in the central Peloponnese (Greece), a region that is situated along one of the primary Pleistocene biogeographical corridors for intracontinental hominin migration. The basin comprises several hundred metres of Plio‐Pleistocene sediments alternating between clastics and lignites.

PALAEONTOLOGY, AGE, PALAEOENVIRONMENT AND PALAEOECOLOGY OF THE KAREWA INTERMONTANE BASIN OF KASHMIR (J&K, INDIA)

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2020
A rich assemblage of vertebrate fossils, especially fish and mammals, has been recovered from the Plio—Pleistocene Karewa deposits of Kashmir (J & K, India).

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Integrating fossil data in ecological niche models to improve predictions of future habitat of Caribbean corals

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecological niche models (ENMs) are used to assess the abiotic preferences of species by linking their occurrences to the environmental conditions in which they live. We developed a fossil‐informed ENM framework that integrates mid‐Holocene and modern occurrences to test niche stability and reconstruct abiotic niche characteristics for four ...

Pleistocene terraces in the Hochrhein area : formation, age constraints and neotectonic implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Pleistocene fluvial gravel terraces appear to be useful to decipher neotectonic movements. To achieve this, however, chronologic and sedimentologic data on the terraces are required. Thus, this thesis represents a multidisciplinary approach.

Mid‐infrared spectroscopy applied to a multi‐level cave system (Montmaurin, SW France): An innovative method for assessing sediment provenance

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Deciphering sediment provenance is essential to understand depositional patterns and dynamics. This question is particularly important in archaeological contexts to constrain the sedimentological history of unearthed material—an information critically needed, for example, to estimate the age of the deposits—or to apprehend sediment movement ...

Surface and subsurface single foraminifera analyses from the Western Pacific Warm Pool over the Plio-Pleistocene

open access: yes, 2018
The Western Equatorial Pacific (WEP) warm pool, with surface temperatures >28 °C and a relatively deep thermocline, is an important source of latent and sensible heat for the global climate system.
