PRROC: computing and visualizing precision-recall and receiver operating characteristic curves in R

open access: yesBioinform., 2015
Summary: Precision-recall (PR) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves are valuable measures of classifier performance. Here, we present the R-package PRROC, which allows for computing and visualizing both PR and ROC curves.

Blocking the voltage‐gated sodium channel hNav1.5 as a novel pH‐dependent mechanism of action for tamoxifen

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Patch‐clamp recordings revealed that tamoxifen inhibits voltage‐gated sodium channels, especially under acidic conditions, both common in metastatic cancer cells. These effects may explain certain antitumor properties of tamoxifen, highlighting a novel mechanism of action beyond its known endocrine effects.

Accelerated RAPID Model Using Heterogeneous Porous Objects

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
To enhance the capability of three-dimensional (3D) radiative transfer models at the kilometer scale (km-scale), the radiosity applicable to porous individual objects (RAPID) model has been upgraded to RAPID3. The major innovation is that the homogeneous

The cochaperone BAG3 promotes the stabilization of p53 under heat stress conditions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under heat stress, BAG3 translocates to the nucleus and forms a complex with Hsp70 and p53, thereby promoting p53 stabilization and enhancing its transcriptional activity. These findings suggest that BAG3 functions as a cochaperone that supports p53‐mediated stress responses in cooperation with Hsp70.

Menthol‐like cooling compounds, including (R)‐(‐)‐carvone, inhibit the human bitter taste receptors for saccharin and acesulfame K

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We report that some menthol‐like cooling compounds, including (R)‐(‐)‐carvone, act as inhibitors of TAS2R31 and TAS2R43, which are taste receptors responsible for the intrinsic bitter aftertastes of saccharin and acesulfame K. However, there was little correlation between the intensity of the cooling sensation and the potency of bitterness inhibition ...

Plasma microRNA Signature as Predictive Marker of Clinical Response to Therapy During Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Despite the availability of effective therapies for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), the unpredictable nature of disease progression and the variability in individual treatment outcomes call for reliable biomarkers. This pilot study aims to investigate the potential of plasma circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) as predictive biomarkers for ...

Continuous Monitoring of Bladder Dysfunction in People With Multiple Sclerosis: Wearables for the Bladder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Bladder dysfunction affects over 85% of people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS), yet current assessment methods are limited to periodic in‐clinic evaluations or subjective patient reports, failing to capture real‐world symptom fluctuations.
