Laboratory Visible and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy with Genetic Algorithm-Based Partial Least Squares Regression for Assessing the Soil Phosphorus Content of Upland and Lowland Rice Fields in Madagascar

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
As a laboratory proximal sensing technique, the capability of visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) diffused reflectance spectroscopy with partial least squares (PLS) regression to determine soil properties has previously been demonstrated.

A Quantitative Structure-Antioxidant Relationship (QSAR) model for 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives using PLS regression

open access: yesZanco Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences, 2019
Antioxidants can control the generation of free radical by terminating the reaction chain. 1,3,4-oxadizol derivatives are the most important heterocyclic compounds which exhibit antioxidant activity.

Implementing PLS for distance-based regression: computational issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Distance-based regression allows for a neat implementation of the Partial Least Squares recurrence. In this paper we address practical issues arising when dealing with moderately large datasets (n ~ 10^4) such as those typical of automobile insurance ...

Representing complex data using localized principal components with application to astronomical data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Often the relation between the variables constituting a multivariate data space might be characterized by one or more of the terms: ``nonlinear'', ``branched'', ``disconnected'', ``bended'', ``curved'', ``heterogeneous'', or, more general, ``complex ...

Machine‐Learning Decomposition Identifies a Big Two Structure in Human Personality with Distinct Neurocognitive Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using machine learning on a mega‐scale global dataset (n = 1,336,840) reveals a robust personality trait architecture beyond the Big Five. A Big Two model, broadly capturing social engagement and internal mentation, defines a geometric space that links personality to neurocognitive profiles.

The L-Curve Criterion as a Model Selection Tool in PLS Regression

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2019
Partial least squares (PLS) regression is an alternative to the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, used in the presence of multicollinearity. As with any other modelling method, PLS regression requires a reliable model selection tool.

Gut Mycobiota‐Associated Tryptophan Catabolites Protect Against Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accumulating evidence suggests that the intestinal microbiota participates in the progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) through microbiota‐host interaction. However, the beneficial role of commensal mycobiota in MASLD progression remains poorly understood.

Canopy Hyperspectral Sensing of Paddy Fields at the Booting Stage and PLS Regression can Assess Grain Yield

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Canopy hyperspectral (HS) sensing is a promising tool for estimating rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield. However, the timing of HS measurements is crucial for assessing grain yield prior to harvest because rice growth stages strongly influence the sensitivity ...

Performance modelling in forest operations through partial least square regression

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2012
Partial Least Square (PLS) regression is a recent soft-modelling technique that generalizes and combines features from principal component analysis (PCA) and multiple regression.

Introducing an interesting and novel strategy based on exploiting first-order advantage from spectrofluorimetric data for monitoring three toxic metals in living cells

open access: yesToxicology Reports, 2022
In this work, we did our best to develop a novel and interesting analytical method based on coupling of spectrofluorimetry with first-order multivariate calibration techniques for simultaneous determination of lead (Pd), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) in ...
