Upgrading old plumbing vent systems
Batiment International, Building Research and Practice, 1983When modernising old buildings the existing venting system may be unable to support extra loads from any facilities added. The authors here report encouraging test results of a new approach to this problem, namely a ‘circulation loop’ modification which expands the venting capacity.

The renal plumbing system: aquaporin water channels
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2005Aquaporins are channels that facilitate movement of water across lipid bilayers. They are expressed in multiple tissues and are essential for regulation of body water homeostasis. The kidney is the main organ responsible for this regulation, and at least seven aquaporins are expressed at distinct sites in the kidney.

Control of Legionella in Plumbing Systems
1988Legionellae are bacteria that have been identified as the cause of legionellosis. Based on a rate of about 1.2 cases of legionellosis/10,000 persons/yr (Foy et al. 1979), more than 25,000 cases of this disease are estimated to occur annually within the U.S.

Geochemical Fingerprinting and Magmatic Plumbing Systems
2014Subvolcanic systems are characterized by complex combinations of intrusive units (dykes, sills, saucer-shaped sills, cone sheets, etc.) for which genetic relationships are unclear. This chapter explains how whole-rock geochemistry may be used to resolve the genetic relationships of such subvolcanic (and volcanic) systems.

A cost model for plumbing and drainage systems
Facilities, 2002The construction cost, yearly maintenance cost and yearly remedial cost of plumbing and drainage systems in buildings were investigated. Occupancy, age, piping material, pipe length and the size of the systems were surveyed in 63 buildings. Correlations for costs of the systems in commercial and residential buildings were made with the surveyed results.
