Antioxidants Differentially Regulate Non‐Photochemical Quenching

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 9, Page 6960-6973, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Non‐photochemical quenching (NPQ) dissipates excess light energy as heat, limiting reactive oxygen species production during photosynthesis. Exogenous antioxidants are widely reported to improve plant performance under stress, yet their impacts on NPQ are inconsistent across studies, complicating mechanistic interpretation.

Essential mitochondrial activity in Physcomitrium patens relies on complementary cytochrome and alternative oxidase pathways

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 127, Issue 5, September 2026.
SUMMARY Mitochondrial respiration catalyses the transfer of electrons from NADH to oxygen through the activity of five multiprotein complexes. In plants, mitochondria also possess additional alternative electron transport pathways, including the alternative oxidase (AOX) pathway, which transfers electrons from ubiquinol to O2, bypassing the cytochrome ...

Integrative simulation analysis of myocardial ischaemia–reperfusion injury

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 18, Page 7640-7662, 15 September 2026.
Abstract figure legend A comprehensive mathematical model of ventricular myocyte was developed to gain insights into the mechanisms underlying cardiac ischaemia–reperfusion injury. The model integrates excitation–contraction (E–C) coupling, cytosolic and mitochondrial pH regulation, pH dependence of major E–C coupling components and cellular energy ...
