PMU Visibility Graphs

2020 IEEE Power & Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT), 2020
In this paper, we map the PMU data to a graph via the visibility algorithm to generate the PMU visibility graph. Applying complex network analysis to this graph unravels several hidden features in the PMU data. The applications of the PMU visibility graphs in the real power grid include anomaly detection, topology identification, and state estimation ...

Accurate phase calibration of PMUs and PMU calibrators

2016 Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2016), 2016
A measurement setup is developed for accurate phase calibration of phasor measurement units (PMUs) and PMU calibrators. The measurement method is based on generating a reference signal with known phase with respect to a 1 pulse-per-second time reference using a stepped sine wave signal.

Improving the PMU Standard

2023 IEEE 13th International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems (AMPS), 2023
The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is perhaps the first representational measurement widely dispersed in the electric power system. Its usefulness has been demonstrated on many occasions. It is shown in this paper that the excellent performance of the PMU is a tribute to PMU makers, and not attributable to the standards that are supposed to specify the ...

Modular PMU tester

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
The PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) is used for accurate measurement of synchronous phasor of voltages and currents. Based on synchronous phasor continuous measurement at the different location of distribution network is possible prevent fault which can cause blackout. Synchronous phasor measurement is described in IEEE C37.118-2005 standard.

A rapid PMU-based load composition and PMU estimation method

Electric Power Systems Research, 2017
Abstract Advanced protection and operation of power systems, especially microgrids, requires rapid detection and estimation of system states. Microgrids, however, are a challenge due to the high variability of distributed generation and modern load profiles.

Verifying interoperability and application performance of PMUs and PMU-enabled IEDs

2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012
This paper presents a new test methodology for verifying the interoperability and application performance of PMUs and PMU-enabled IEDs at the device and system level. Two types of tests are defined to evaluate the performance of synchrophasor devices from two different aspects: design and application.

The PMU dynamic performance evaluation and the comparison of PMU standards

2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012
Synchronized phasor measurement is one of the most important information sources for smart transmission grid, which provides a new path for power system dynamic monitoring, analysis and control. Therefore whether the PMU (phasor measurement unit) can track the status of the power system, especially under the dynamic condition, is crucial.

Sensors for PMUs

2016
Instrument transformers (ITs) are key elements in any measurement system and, in particular, their role is fundamental in applications such as PMUs, where the requirements on the measurement uncertainty are very strict. The characteristics, in terms of accuracy, electrical insulation, and mechanical property, that must be fulfilled by ITs employed in ...

PMU standard of China

APCCAS 2008 - 2008 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2008
At the end of 2006, Chinese WAMS/GPS working group has started the renewal of PMU standards. Synchrophasor measurement, dynamic recording and real-time communication are defined as primary functions of PMU. Working group suggest PMU shall measure generator rotor angle.
