The PMU performance evaluation

2012 Conference on Precision electromagnetic Measurements, 2012
In this paper, the PMU performances evaluation, especially the dynamic one, are presented, which is significant for improving PMU behavior in smart grid. The comprehensive test program including steady state test and dynamic test is outlined. And the details of the test items are revealed.

“Frequency” and the PMU standard

2021 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2021
The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) has revolutionized power system management by providing high-resolution, time-stamped, spatial, and temporal measurements of the state of power systems. However, the standards defining the measured quantities have ambiguities that cause uncertainty, irreproducibility, and loss of interoperability during periods of ...

A PMU Calibration System

2018 Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2018), 2018
There is a need for traceable calibrations of Phasor measurement units, which measures the phase angle of power system signals with respect to the universal time. This paper describes the design of such a calibration system. The system utilizes a fast A-D converter, synchronized to the Swedish time and frequency realization.

Software platform for PMU algorithms testing

2012 Conference on Precision electromagnetic Measurements, 2012
This paper describes a software platform used for the testing of PMU algorithms. The platform is implemented in MATLAB and consists of two parts. The first one permits the insertion of the simulation parameters while the second is the actual simulator for the algorithms.

Optimal placement of PMUs & analytics on PMU data using ANN technique

2017 International Conference on Energy, Communication, Data Analytics and Soft Computing (ICECDS), 2017
Power system play a vital role in human life. The reliability of these power systems depends on the operating constraints & conditions. PMU (Phasor measurement units) utilizes synchronization signals provided by the GPS (global positioning system) satellites and deliver the voltage and currents phasors measured at a given node.

A Brazilian PMU-WAMS pilot project: A methodology for PMU site selection

IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017
The stability of interconnected large power systems — like the Brazilian National Grid (SIN) — is directly compromised by weakly or not damped low frequency oscillations and transitory oscillations, these latter originated from large contingencies.

PMUs [phasor measurement unit]

IEEE Potentials, 1994
In the spring of 1993, a major new 500 kV transmission line was put in service in Northern California. Test engineers initiated a series of artificial short-circuit faults to test the line installation. As an experiment, the steady-state and transient responses of the power system were recorded.

Taxonomy of PMU Placement Methodologies

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2012
Utilization of phasor measurement units (PMUs) in the monitoring, protection and control of power systems has become increasingly important in recent years. The aim of the optimal PMU placement (OPP) problem is to provide the minimal PMU installations to ensure full observability of the power system. Several methods, based on mathematical and heuristic

Reliability-Based Incremental PMU Placement

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2014
This paper presents a new reliability-based incremental phasor measurement unit (PMU) placement method via an enumeration-based integer linear programming optimization approach. By evaluating the proposed reliability indices for node and system observability, incremental PMUs are sequentially placed on the locations where the reliability of entire ...
