A rapid PMU-based load composition and PMU estimation method
Electric Power Systems Research, 2017Abstract Advanced protection and operation of power systems, especially microgrids, requires rapid detection and estimation of system states. Microgrids, however, are a challenge due to the high variability of distributed generation and modern load profiles.

Verifying interoperability and application performance of PMUs and PMU-enabled IEDs
2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012This paper presents a new test methodology for verifying the interoperability and application performance of PMUs and PMU-enabled IEDs at the device and system level. Two types of tests are defined to evaluate the performance of synchrophasor devices from two different aspects: design and application.

The PMU dynamic performance evaluation and the comparison of PMU standards
2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012Synchronized phasor measurement is one of the most important information sources for smart transmission grid, which provides a new path for power system dynamic monitoring, analysis and control. Therefore whether the PMU (phasor measurement unit) can track the status of the power system, especially under the dynamic condition, is crucial.

Instrument transformers (ITs) are key elements in any measurement system and, in particular, their role is fundamental in applications such as PMUs, where the requirements on the measurement uncertainty are very strict. The characteristics, in terms of accuracy, electrical insulation, and mechanical property, that must be fulfilled by ITs employed in ...

“Frequency” and the PMU standard
2021 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2021The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) has revolutionized power system management by providing high-resolution, time-stamped, spatial, and temporal measurements of the state of power systems. However, the standards defining the measured quantities have ambiguities that cause uncertainty, irreproducibility, and loss of interoperability during periods of ...

2018 Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2018), 2018
There is a need for traceable calibrations of Phasor measurement units, which measures the phase angle of power system signals with respect to the universal time. This paper describes the design of such a calibration system. The system utilizes a fast A-D converter, synchronized to the Swedish time and frequency realization.

Optimal placement of PMUs & analytics on PMU data using ANN technique
2017 International Conference on Energy, Communication, Data Analytics and Soft Computing (ICECDS), 2017Power system play a vital role in human life. The reliability of these power systems depends on the operating constraints & conditions. PMU (Phasor measurement units) utilizes synchronization signals provided by the GPS (global positioning system) satellites and deliver the voltage and currents phasors measured at a given node.
