Mycoplasmal Pneumonia of Swine: Serologic Response in Pigs

SUMMARY Pigs experimentally exposed to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae developed antibody titers detectable by indirect hemagglutination (iha) test 2 to 3 weeks after exposure. These titers reached a maximal level on the 8th to 11th week and remained there until the 28th week.

Mycoplasmal Pneumonia of Swine: Active and Passive Immunizations

SUMMARY Five vaccinal preparations were evaluated in pigs for their ability to prevent mycoplasmal pneumonia of swine (mps). Vaccine A protected 4 of 4 pigs from pneumonia; vaccines F and G conferred immunity to 34 of 44 pigs. Vaccine B protected 5 of 8 pigs from pneumonia, whereas none of the 3 pigs given vaccine H were protected.

Mycoplasmal Pneumonia of Swine: Development of an Indirect Hemagglutination Test

SUMMARY An indirect hemagglutination (iha) test for the detection of antibodies to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in swine has been developed. With the iha test, antibodies were detected in 57 of 62 (92%) experimentally inoculated pigs that had pneumonic lesions and in 3 of 8 pigs that failed to develop lesions.

SUMMARY The complement-fixation test (cft), a latex-agglutination test (lat), and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae isolation procedures were compared with gross and microscopic lung evaluations for the routine diagnosis of mycoplasmal pneumonia (mp) of swine. The difficulty and variability of M hyopneumoniae isolation rendered this technique unacceptable.

Seroepidemiology of mycoplasmal pneumonia of swine in Japan as surveyed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay

Antibodies to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae were surveyed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) on serum, colostrum and milk samples collected from sows and on sera of growing/finishing pigs in Japan. Only one of 196 specific-pathogen-free sows induced a low ELISA value, while 72% of 411 sows from conventional herds were seropositive.
