Biogeography and diversification dynamics of the megadiverse plant genus Cyperus (Cyperaceae, Poales).

Annals of Botany
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Species richness varies across the clades of the tree of life and regions of the globe. To understand the nature of such asymmetry in species richness, studies have investigated different aspects of the evolutionary history of ...

Comparative floral anatomy in species of Cyperoideae (Poales: Cyperaceae) and insights into the evolution of floral traits

Botanical journal of the Linnean Society, 2023
Species of Cyperoideae exhibit wide morphological variation in their flowers due to reduction processes. Their flowers can be bisexual or unisexual, achlamydeous or not, with tepals and stamens varying from one to six and a trimerous or dimerous ...

Pollination biology of Syngonanthus elegans (Eriocaulaceae - Poales)

Australian Journal of Botany, 2009
Studies on the pollination biology of Eriocaulaceae are scarce although particularly interesting because of its inclusion in the Poales, a predominantly wind-pollinated order. The pollination biology of Syngonanthus elegans (Bong.) Ruhland was studied during two annual flowering periods to test the hypothesis that insect pollination was its primary ...

Agricultural issues with climate change—case studies with corn pests: tar spot of corn (Xylariales: Phyllachoraceae), corn earworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), and itchgrass (Poales: Poaceae)

Journal of Integrated Pest Management
Agricultural production and crop yields are threatened around the world by the emergence and spread of agronomic pests, including insects, diseases, and weeds.

Differential beet leafhopper (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) acceptance of barley (Poales: Poaceae) and brown mustard (Brassicales: Brassicaceae) cover crops.

Journal of Economic Entomology
Chile pepper, Capsicum annuum L. (Solanales: Solanaceae) yield in New Mexico is threatened by a multitude of factors, including beet curly top virus (BCTV) vectored by the beet leafhopper, Neoaliturus tenellus (Baker), and competition with annual weeds ...

A revised evolutionary history of Poales: origins and diversification

Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2013
Poales represents more than one third of all monocotyledons (c. 20000 species in 16 families) and constitutes a microcosm of the angiosperms. The extreme variation in species richness among the families of Poales is still not understood: Poaceae includes ~10000 species whereas six families have fewer than ten species.

Comparative embryology and taxonomic considerations in Eriocaulaceae (Poales)

Feddes Repertorium, 2010
AbstractThe genus concept within Eriocaulaceae is widely discussed because it is mainly based on a small number of floral characteristics of unknown functional and evolutionary significance. The aim of the present work is to comparatively study the embryology of representatives of most genera of Eriocaulaceae to identify relevant features that might ...
