Abstract Marine heat waves detrimentally affect a range of marine species, including seabirds, and are increasing in frequency and severity. When thousands of dead seabirds wash up on beaches, the public becomes concerned. La endocría y la coancestría aumentan la homocigosis generando genotipos autocigotas sin afectar a las frecuencias alélicas. Puede considerarse que una muestra de loci selectivamente neutros permite hacer inferencias acerca del coeficiente de endocría de una población porque sus efectos son expresados en todos los loci de cada individuo.
