NESTING HABITAT OF THE ‘CUPISO’ Podocnemis sextuberculata (TESTUDINES: PODOCNEMIDIDAE) IN EREPECU LAKE (PARÁ-BRAZIL)

open access: yesActa Biológica Colombiana, 2015
The objective of this study was to identify and describe the nesting habitat of Podocnemis sextuberculata at Erepecu Lake, Trombetas River Biological Reserve, (REBIO-Trombetas; Pará-Brazil).

Evidence of multiple paternal contribution in Podocnemis sextuberculata (Testudines: Podocnemididae) detected by microsatellite markers. [PDF]

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2015
Evidence of multiple paternity in Podocnemis sextuberculata (Testudines: Podocnemididae) detected by microsatellite markers. We found evidence of multiple paternity in a sample of 12 Podocnemis sextuberculata nests including seven nests (80 hatchlings ...

Turtle body size evolution is determined by lineage-specific specializations rather than global trends. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
In this work, we characterize deep‐time patterns of body evolution in turtles (Testudinata), using the most comprehensive dataset to date and employing different comparative methods. Our results suggest that through‐time patterns of turtle body evolution were determined by lineage‐specific specializations, such as habitat choice.

Pharmacological restraint of captivity giant Amazonian turtle Podocnemis expansa (Testudines, Podocnemididae) with xylazine and propofol Contenção farmacológica de tartaruga da Amazônia Podocnemis expansa (Testudines, Podocnemididae) de cativeiro com xilazina e propofol

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2008
PURPOSE: Identify a technique to induce brief sedation and hypnosis in Podocnemis expansa. METHODS: Twenty commercially bred P. expansa, weighing on average 1.2 ± 0.24 kg, were subjected to two protocols: G1 was given 1.5 mg/kg IM of xylazine and ...

Neuroanatomical study of the podocnemidid turtle Neochelys arenarum (Pleurodira), from the early Eocene of France. [PDF]

open access: yesAnat Rec (Hoboken)
Abstract Neochelys is an exclusively European Eocene podocnemidid genus belonging to a linage that reached this continent at the early Eocene. The so far available anatomical information about it is relatively abundant, especially considering that of its shell, at least partially preserved for the eight valid species currently considered.

Shell characterization of the youngest valid species of the European Eocene genus Neochelys (Pleurodira, Podocnemididae): The Spanish Bartonian Neochelys salmanticensis. [PDF]

open access: yesAnat Rec (Hoboken)
Abstract The freshwater pleurodiran turtle Neochelys is the best‐represented member of Podocnemididae in the European record, being known by eight Eocene species. The youngest of them is the Bartonian (middle Eocene) Neochelys salmanticensis, from the Duero Basin (Salamanca Province, Central Spain).

ABUNDANCIA, ESTRUCTURA POBLACIONAL Y CONSERVACIÓN DE Podocnemis lewyana (PODOCNEMIDIDAE) EN EL RÍO PRADO, COLOMBIA

Phylogeny, biogeography and diversification patterns of side-necked turtles (Testudines: Pleurodira). [PDF]

open access: yesR Soc Open Sci, 2018
Pleurodires or side-necked turtles are today restricted to freshwater environments of South America, Africa– Madagascar and Australia, but in the past they were distributed much more broadly, being found also on Eurasia, India and North America, and ...

Prehatch Calls and Coordinated Birth in Turtles. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The study investigates the phylogenetic distribution of within‐egg vocal behaviour among turtles and its role in synchronous hatching. Clutches from six turtle species with diverse ecological and reproductive niches were recorded, aiming to understand if asynchronous species vocalise from within the egg, the influence of clutch size on synchronous ...

Postcranial anomalies of Eocene freshwater pleurodiran and cryptodiran turtles from the Spanish Duero Basin. [PDF]

open access: yesAnat Rec (Hoboken)
Abstract Testudines are one of the best‐represented taxonomic groups among the Paleogene taxa of the Duero Basin (Castile and Leon Autonomous Community, central Spain). Among them, Neochelys (Podocnemidide) and Allaeochelys (Carettochelyidae) are most abundant, allowing the population to be assessed for osteological anomalies.
