We assessed the impact of pregnancy on cognition and cell proliferation in the live‐bearing fish Poeciliopsis gracilis. Pregnant females showed reduced spatial learning but unchanged reversal learning, alongside decreased cell proliferation in the olfactory bulb and ventral telencephalon, indicating pregnancy‐induced cognitive and neural changes in a ...

Predation risk and abiotic habitat parameters affect personality traits in extremophile populations of a neotropical fish (Poecilia vivipara) [PDF]
Understanding whether and how ambient ecological conditions affect the distribution of personality types within and among populations lies at the heart of research on animal personality.

Optomotor test for wavelength sensitivity in guppyfish (Poecilia reticulata)
Wavelength sensitivity was measured in the guppyfish by means of optomotor responses to a special apparent-motion display. A set of red and green bars appeared to humans to move to the left if red was darker than green, but to the right if red was lighter than green. At equiluminance there was no apparent motion.

ABSTRACT Histopathological studies of infections with the nematode Procamallanus (Procamallanus) pseudolaeviconchus Moravec and Van As, 2015, an intestinal parasite of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822), are scarce. The current study describes histopathological changes in the stomach of C. gariepinus infected with P.

Demasculinization of male guppies increases resistance to a common and harmful ectoparasite [PDF]
Parasites are detrimental to host fitness and therefore should strongly select for host defence mechanisms. Yet, hosts vary considerably in their observed parasite loads. One notable source of inter-individual variation in parasitism is host sex.
