Checklist of the continental fishes of the state of Chiapas, Mexico, and their distribution

open access: yesZooKeys, 2016
An updated checklist of the distribution of fishes that inhabit the continental waters of the Mexican state of Chiapas is presented. The state was compartmentalized into 12 hydrological regions for the purpose of understanding the distribution of fish ...

Biochemical Responses of Anopheles spp. Larvae to a Novel Brazilian BR101 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulation: Oxidative Stress, Detoxification Enzymes, and Safety for Nontarget Notonectidae and Gerridae Aquatic Insects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bti BR101 exhibits strong larvicidal activity against Anopheles larvae spp., with dose‐dependent mortality and LC50 of 3.13 µg/mL. Bti increases ROS, lipid and protein oxidation, and activates antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx) and detoxification pathways (MFO and esterases), indicating moderate oxidative stress.

Sexual Dimorphism in Fin Size and Shape in Bluefin Killifish

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study shows very high levels of sexual dimorphism in dorsal and anal fin traits compared to other fins. Dorsal and anal fin traits are also correlated, such that individuals with large dorsal fins also have large anal fins. Together, this suggests strong sexual selection on these functionally integrated traits.

The molecular basis of color vision in colorful fish: Four Long Wave-Sensitive (LWS) opsins in guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are defined by amino acid substitutions at key functional sites

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2008
Background Comparisons of functionally important changes at the molecular level in model systems have identified key adaptations driving isolation and speciation.

Diversity and Spatiotemporal Distribution of Fish in a Highland Lake in China Based on Environmental DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We analyzed water samples from different seasons and locations in Erhai Lake to determine whether eDNA barcoding can effectively show the diversity of fish in such lakes. In the manuscript, we discuss our findings regarding the range of species found, their spatiotemporal distribution, and whether eDNA barcoding gave similar results to traditional ...

Population structure of an endemic fish Limia zonata (Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliinae) in the Maimón River, Dominican Republic

open access: yesNovitates Caribaea, 2019
The population structure of Limia zonata (Nichols, 1915) was studied in four locations in the Maimón River, Monseñor Nouel province, Dominican Republic. The sex and adult-juveniles ratio was calculated for all sampled localities.

Oil Things Bright and Beautiful? How Hydrocarbon Pollution Impacts Guppy Ornamentation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Spatial variation in crude oil pollution in Trinidad leads to differing levels of pollutant exposure in connected guppy populations. Male guppy ornamentation is an important sexually selected trait affected by environmental changes. Measuring area and intensity of this ornamentation, we found guppies from anthropogenically polluted habitats had greater

Genomic resources for a model in adaptation and speciation research: characterization of the Poecilia mexicana transcriptome

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2012
Background Elucidating the genomic basis of adaptation and speciation is a major challenge in natural systems with large quantities of environmental and phenotypic data, mostly because of the scarcity of genomic resources for non-model organisms.
