On smooth manifolds with homotopy type of a homology sphere

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we study $\mathcal M(X)$, the set of diffeomorphism classes of smooth manifolds with the simple homotopy type of $X$, via a map $\Psi$ from $\mathcal M(X)$ into the quotient of $K(X)=[X,BSO]$ by the action of the group of homotopy classes ...

Respiratory‐Limbic Coupling via a Thalamic Circuit Alleviates Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delineates a conserved preBötCGlu→PVT→CeA circuit that gates anxiety and respiration. Activation of this circuit is anxiolytic and respiratory‐stabilizing, while its inhibition has the opposite effect. Mechanistically, PVT exerts its anxiolytic action via a disinhibitory microcircuit: its inputs preferentially target CeL GABAergic neurons ...

Polarisation structuring of broadband light [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Spatial structuring of the intensity, phase and polarisation of light is useful in a wide variety of modern applications, from microscopy to optical communications.

Pacinian Corpuscle‐Inspired Strain Conversion Enables Ultrasensitive, Linear, and Broad‐Range Piezoelectric Sensing for Cardiovascular Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioinspired piezoelectric sensor mimicking Pacinian corpuscles is developed to enable ultrasensitive and linear pressure sensing. A multilayer grooved architecture converts normal pressure into in‐plane strain, delivering high sensitivity, wide linear range, and efficient energy harvesting, enabling high‐fidelity wrist pulse monitoring and ...

The asymptotic structure of electromagnetism in higher spacetime dimensions

open access: yes, 2019
We investigate the asymptotic structure of electromagnetism in Minkowski space in even and odd spacetime dimensions $\geq 4$. We focus on $d>4$ since the case $d=4$ has been studied previously at length.

The Ontology of Knowledge, logic, arithmetic, sets theory and geometry (issue 20210304) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In Issue 20210304 the paragraph "intuition of space" is reworded/improved. At ordinary scales, the ontological model proposed by Ontology of Knowledge (OK) does not call into question the representation of the world elaborated by common sense ...

Discovering Interpretable Semantics from Radio Signals for Contactless Cardiac Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a semantic representation framework for clinically interpretable cardiac monitoring from contactless radio signals. It formulates radio semantic learning as an information‐bottleneck problem and approximates the objective via intra‐modal compression and cross‐modal alignment, structuring radio measurements into meaningful semantic ...

Quantum entangled fractional topology and curvatures

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
The Chern number is a defining characteristic of a non-trivial topological system and is derived from another fundamental property termed the Berry curvature.

Spectral gap for some invariant log-concave probability measures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We show that the conjecture of Kannan, Lov\'{a}sz, and Simonovits on isoperimetric properties of convex bodies and log-concave measures, is true for log-concave measures of the form $\rho(|x|_B)dx$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\rho(t,|x|_B) dx$ on $\mathbb{R}^{

Arbitrary Orthogonal Polarization Decomposition and Routing With Complex Amplitude Modulation via Wheel‐of‐Fortune‐Inspired Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a receiver‐transmitter‐integrated metasurface that decomposes an incident wave into orthogonal components and routes them into separate channels. Inspired by a “Wheel‐of‐Fortune” mechanism, it enables independent control over the amplitude, phase, and polarization of the transmitted wave.
