Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Multi-axis point absorber wave energy converters

open access: yes, 2019
A multi-axis point absorber wave energy converter (MA-PAWEC) can be defined as a point absorber wave energy converter that absorbs energy from multiple modes of body motion using a power-take-off (PTO) system operating in multiple degrees of freedom.

Underwater Absorber for a Remotely Operated Vehicle

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Fixed-point underwater hovering is a key technology for the reliable operation of a remotely operated vehicle in the ocean to inspect the surfaces of a variety of underwater structures, such as ports and offshore wind power facilities.

Emitter near an arbitrary body: Purcell effect, optical theorem and the Wheeler-Feynman absorber

open access: yes, 2012
The altered spontaneous emission of an emitter near an arbitrary body can be elucidated using an energy balance of the electromagnetic field. From a classical point of view it is trivial to show that the field scattered back from any body should alter ...

Ultra-broadband Light Absorption by a Sawtooth Anisotropic Metamaterial Slab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present an ultra broadband thin-film infrared absorber made of saw-toothed anisotropic metamaterial. Absorbtivity of higher than 95% at normal incidence is supported in a wide range of frequencies, where the full absorption width at half maximum is ...

Reliability assessment of point-absorber wave energy converters [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Engineering, 2018
Ocean wave energy is a clean and inexhaustible energy resource, capable of providing more than 2 TW of energy supply worldwide. Among all the technologies available to convert wave energy, the point-absorber is one of the most promising solutions today, due to its ease of both fabrication and installation.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

RANS-VOF modelling of the Wavestar point absorber [PDF]

open access: yesRenewable Energy, 2017
Highlights•A fully nonlinear, coupled model of the Wavestar WEC has been created using open-source CFD software, OpenFOAM®.•The response of the Wavestar WEC is simulated in regular waves with different steepness.•Predictions of body motion, surface elevation, fluid velocity, pressure and load are compared with physical measurements.•Model stability is ...
