A Design Outline for Floating Point Absorber Wave Energy Converters

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2014
An overview of the most important development stages of floating point absorber wave energy converters is presented. At a given location, the wave energy resource has to be first assessed for varying seasons. The mechanisms used to convert wave energy to

Hydrodynamic performance of concentric arrays of point absorbers [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Ocean and Climate Systems, 2016
The behaviour of arrays of 12 heaving point absorbers in concentric arrangements is numerically assessed in a frequency domain model. The floaters are attached to a central cylindrical bottom-mounted structure. Each point absorber is restricted to the heave mode and is assumed to have its own linear power take-off system consisting of an external ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Analysis of the Wave Characteristics of the Baltic Sea in Terms of the Use of Wave Energy Converters

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Obtaining electricity from water wave energy using energy converters has a long history, but there are still relatively few commercial devices in the world compared to other solutions using renewable energy. The probable reasons for this state of affairs

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

RANS-VOF modelling of the Wavestar point absorber [PDF]

open access: yesRenewable Energy, 2017
Highlights•A fully nonlinear, coupled model of the Wavestar WEC has been created using open-source CFD software, OpenFOAM®.•The response of the Wavestar WEC is simulated in regular waves with different steepness.•Predictions of body motion, surface elevation, fluid velocity, pressure and load are compared with physical measurements.•Model stability is ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Geometric Development of Point Absorber Wave Energy Conventer

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
This paper describes how to design the shape of a floating object that will be used as a point absorber on wave energy converster. The buoyant shape to be analyzed is a tube has a flat top plane with varying bottom plane, i.e cylinder, hemisphare and ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
