Photoacoustic generation by a gold nanosphere: From linear to nonlinear thermoelastics in the long-pulse illumination regime

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate theoretically the photoacoustic generation by a gold nanosphere in water in the thermoelastic regime. Specifically, we consider the long-pulse illumination regime, in which the time for electron-phonon thermalisation can be neglected and ...

Numerical Investigation of the Scaling Effects for a Point Absorber

open access: yesWater, 2022
In order to design and evaluate the behaviour of a numerically optimised wave energy converter (WEC), a recommended procedure is to initially study small scale models in controlled laboratory conditions and then progress further up until the full-scale is reached.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Wave Excitation Force Estimation Using an Electrical-Based Extended Kalman Filter for Point Absorber Wave Energy Converters

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Accurate real-time knowledge of the wave excitation force affecting a wave energy converter (WEC) - either through measurement or by estimation - is crucial for implementing effective control strategies that ensure optimum power absorption, system ...

Numerical simulation of an array of heaving floating point absorber wave energy converters using OpenFOAM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we use the CFD toolbox OpenFOAM to perform numerical simulations of multiple floating point absorber Wave Energy Converters (WECs) in a numerical wave basin.

Bottom slamming on heaving point absorber wave energy devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Oscillating point absorber buoys may rise out of the water and be subjected to bottom slamming upon re-entering the water. Numerical simulations are performed to estimate the power absorption, the impact velocities and the corresponding slamming forces ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Excitation of absorbing exceptional points in the time domain

open access: yesFrontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2022 (FIO, LS), 2022
We find that a time-domain signature of a bsorbing exceptional points is an expansion of the class of perfectly captured waveforms, improved performance for storage or transduction of energy, and conversion between waveforms within this class.
