Analysing and Enhancing the Coarse Registration Pipeline [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The current and continual development of sensors and imaging systems capable of acquiring three-dimensional data provides a novel form in which the world can be expressed and examined. The acquisition process, however, is often limited by imaging systems

Testing and Simulation of Multilayer Polyvinylidene Fluoride‐Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The study considers the use of polymer/dielectric‐based multilayers piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (EH) to produce an output voltage and current, by exploiting the mechanical energy provided by human organs movements. In particular, the heart motion is considered from the kinematic viewpoint, and a multiphysics theoretical model is developed to assess

Deep Unsupervised Segmentation of Log Point Clouds

open access: yes
In sawmills, it is essential to accurately measure the raw material, i.e. wooden logs, to optimise the sawing process. Earlier studies have shown that accurate predictions of the inner structure of the logs can be obtained using just surface point clouds produced by a laser scanner.

Gait Analysis of Pak Biawak: A Necrobot Lizard Built using the Skeleton of an Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator)

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Multiple-sensor integration for efficient reverse engineering of geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper describes a multi-sensor measuring system for reverse engineering applications. A sphere-plate artefact is developed for data unification of the hybrid system.

Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

Task‐Oriented Path Planning Towards Autonomous Sensor Network Deployment in Rainforest Canopies

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An informative path planner for drone‐based deployment of wireless sensor networks in rainforest canopies is presented, addressing key challenges in large‐scale biodiversity monitoring. By integrating canopy surface detection with connectivity‐aware sampling under strict flight constraints, the approach enables efficient and reliable aerial sensor ...

SEGMENTATION OF UAV-BASED IMAGES INCORPORATING 3D POINT CLOUD INFORMATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Numerous applications related to urban scene analysis demand automatic recognition of buildings and distinct sub-elements. For example, if LiDAR data is available, only 3D information could be leveraged for the segmentation.
