Improving the Physical Exam with Technology - Point of Care Ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Point of Care Ultrasound is rapidly becoming standard of care for utilization in real time medical diagnostics and decision making. As such we sought to introduce ultrasound to medical students beginning in their first year and specifically incorporating

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Point-of-care testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

The conduct of quality control and quality assurance testing for PoCT outside the laboratory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Within pathology laboratories, quality assessment, internal quality control (QC) and external quality assurance (EQA) are integral components of a laboratory’s quality system.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Point-of-care testing in diabetes management

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2019
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has rapidly increased over the last decades, reaching epidemic magnitudes, particularly in lowand middle-income countries. Point-of-care (POC) technology enables decision making near or at the site of patient care.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
