This paper gives a bound for the total variation distance between the distribution of a sum of independent binomial random variables and an appropriate Poisson distribution with mean P n=1 mipi, where mi and pi = 1 − qi are parameters of each binomial distribution. ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.
