Projected squeezing of the wintertime North-Atlantic jet
The future response of the atmospheric circulation to increased anthropogenic forcing is uncertain, in particular due to competing influences of the large projected warming at the surface in the Arctic, and at upper-levels in the tropics.

Analytic radiative‐advective equilibrium as a model for high‐latitude climate
We propose radiative‐advective equilibrium as a basic‐state model for the high‐latitude atmosphere. Temperature profiles are determined by a competition between stabilization by atmospheric shortwave absorption and advective heat flux convergence, and ...

DataSheet1_Contributions to Polar Amplification in CMIP5 and CMIP6 Models.pdf
As a step towards understanding the fundamental drivers of polar climate change, we evaluate contributions to polar warming and its seasonal and hemispheric asymmetries in Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6) as compared with CMIP5 ...

Broadband polarization pulling using Raman amplification
The Raman gain based polarization pulling process in a copropagating scheme is investigated. We map the degree of polarization, the angle between the signal and pump output Stokes vectors, the mean signal gain and its standard deviation considering the entire Raman gain bandwidth.

Recent years (i.e., 2007–2014) have exhibited large declines in snow cover extent (SCE) in the Northern Hemisphere (NH), marked by earlier snowmelt in the springtime.

Assessment of Antarctic Amplification Based on a Reconstruction of Near-Surface Air Temperature
Polar amplification has been a research focus in climate research in recent decades. However, little attention has been paid to Antarctic amplification (AnA). We have examined the variations in annual and seasonal temperature over the Antarctic Ice Sheet

Improving temperature reconstructions from ice-core water-isotope records [PDF]
Oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios in polar precipitation are widely used as proxies for local temperature. In combination, oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios also provide information on sea surface temperature at the oceanic moisture source locations ...

Recent advances in fluorescence anisotropy/polarization signal amplification
We discuss how the potential of fluorescence anisotropy/polarization signal approach expanded through mass amplification, fluorescence lifetime amplification, segmental motion amplification, and provide perspectives at future applications.

Phase-sensitive amplification and regeneration of dual-polarization BPSK without polarization diversity [PDF]
We analyze the performance of a degenerate vector PSA-based receiver and compare to an EDFA-based receiver, achieving an about 1 dB sensitivity improvement. We also assess the phase regeneration provided by the vector PSA when the signal phase is degraded.
