Central polar cap convection response to short duration southward Interplanetary Magnetic Field [PDF]
Central polar cap convection changes associated with southward turnings of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) are studied using a chain of Canadian Advanced Digital Ionosondes (CADI) in the northern polar cap.

Polar cap index comparisons with AMIE cross polar cap potential, electric field, and polar cap area [PDF]
The polar cap index (PCI) has been shown to be quite useful as an index of the electrodynamic processes within the high‐latitude ionosphere. Here we use between 150 and 180 magnetometers to model the high‐latitude electrodynamics with the assimilative mapping of ionospheric electrodynamics (AMIE) technique for all of 1997–2001.

Polar Cap Patch Prediction in the Expanding Contracting Polar Cap Paradigm [PDF]
AbstractSpace weather can cause serious disturbances of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) used for positioning and navigation purposes. This paper describes a new method to forecast space weather disturbances on GNSS at high latitudes, in which we describe the formation and propagation of polar cap patches and predict their arrival at the ...

Variations in the polar cap area during intervals of substorm activity on 20-21 March 1990 deduced from AMIE convection patterns [PDF]
The dynamic behaviour of the northern polar cap area is studied employing Northern Hemisphere electric potential patterns derived by the Assimilative Mapping of Ionospheric Electrodynamics (AMIE) procedure. The rate of change in area of the polar cap,

Spherical Caps in Cell Polarization [PDF]
Intracellular symmetry breaking plays a key role in wide range of biological processes, both in single cells and in multicellular organisms. An important class of symmetry-breaking mechanisms relies on the cytoplasm/membrane redistribution of proteins that can autocatalytically promote their own recruitment to the plasma membrane.

Polar cap convection patterns inferred from EISCAT observations [PDF]
From data of the European incoherent scatter radar EISCAT, and mainly from its tristatic capabilities, statistical models of steady convection in the auroral ionosphere were achieved for various levels of magnetic activity.

IR SPECTRAL MAPPING OF THE MARTIAN SOUTH POLAR RESIDUAL CAP USING CRISM [PDF]
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are considered to be important in theories of abiogenesis (Allamandola, 2011) . There is evidence that PAHs have been detected on two icy Saturnian satellites using the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer ...

Transpolar voltage and polar cap flux during the substorm cycle and steady convection events [PDF]
Transpolar voltages observed during traversals of the polar cap by the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F-13 spacecraft during 2001 are analyzed using the expanding-contracting polar cap model of ionospheric convection.
