Abstract Meteorites serve as an exceptional source of insight into our planet and the Solar System. Most meteorite fragments were recovered hundreds to thousands of years after their fall, and therefore exhibit varying degrees of terrestrial weathering, which has altered or completely removed weather‐sensitive mineral phases.

Metal Anions in Metal‐Rich Compounds and Polar Intermetallics
European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, 2011AbstractWe briefly surveyed metal‐rich and intermetallic compounds containing metal anions that have been characterized by density functional calculations. Transition metal anions come with electron configurations (n+1)s2nd10(n+1)p0, (n+1)s2nd10(n+1)p1, and (n+1)s2nd10(n+1)p2. Their nd orbitals act asreservoirs for holding ten electrons.

Yb5Ni4Sn10 and Yb7Ni4Sn13: New polar intermetallics with 3D framework structures
Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 2010Abstract The title compounds have been obtained by solid state reactions of the corresponding pure elements at high temperature, and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Yb 5 Ni 4 Sn 10 adopts the Sc 5 Co 4 Si 10 structure type and crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P 4 /mbm (No.

Yb3CoSn6 and Yb4Mn2Sn5: New polar intermetallics with 3D open-framework structures
Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 2008Abstract Two new ternary ytterbium transition metal stannides, namely, Yb3CoSn6 and Yb4Mn2Sn5, have been obtained by solid-state reactions of the corresponding pure elements in welded tantalum tubes at high temperature. Their crystal structures have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Conduction-electron polarization in intermetallic actinide compounds
Physical Review B, 1978The large conduction-electron polarization observed in many intermetallic actinide compounds with well localized $5f$ moments is analyzed using a phenomenological model for the electron density of states. The model is applied to PuP and successfully predicts appreciable polarization effects existing in the paramagnetic phase.
