ChemInform Abstract: Chemistry in the Polar Intermetallic Host Zr5Sb3. Fifteen Interstitial Compounds.

ChemInform, 1990
AbstractThe syntheses of single‐phase samples of Zr5Sb3Z with Z: C, O, Al, Si, P, S, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, As, Se, Ru, and Ag are described and single crystal XRD data are reported for two metal‐flux products, Zr5Sb3Si and Zr5Sb3Zn (space group P63/mcm, Z=2).

Probing magnetism of alloys and intermetallic compounds by spin polarized photoemission (invited)

Journal of Applied Physics, 1982
The potential of spin polarized photoemission for studies of alloys and intermetallic compounds is described, specifically with respect to its surface sensitivity. We present studies on well defined Ni1−xFex (100) surfaces for x = 0.2 and 0.6. We find that the majority spin band in the bulk is not full for x = 0.6.

Chemistry in the polar intermetallic host zirconium antimonide, Zr5Sb3. Fifteen interstitial compounds

Inorganic Chemistry, 1990
Reactive (powder) sintering, arc-melting, vapor-phase-transport, and metal-flux methods have been explored for the synthesis of single-phase samples of compounds Zr{sub 5}Sb{sub 3}Z, in which an interstitial atom Z is bound in the centers of all zirconium trigonal-antiprismatic sites in the Zr{sub 5}Sb{sub 3} host (Mn{sub 5}Si{sub 3} type). Products of

Theoretical studies on cerium nickel aluminides: polar intermetallics with heavy fermion behavior

Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 2003
Abstract The electronic structures of Ce 4 Ni 6 Al 23 , CeNiAl 4 , CeNi 2 Al 5 , CeNiAl and CeNi 4 Al have been calculated using the TB-LMTO-ASA (tight-binding, linear muffin-tin orbital, atomic-spheres approximation) approach to probe relationships between chemical bonding and physical properties in this series of intermetallic compounds.

Polarity effect of electromigration on intermetallic compound formation in SnPb solder joints

Acta Materialia, 2009
Abstract The polarity effect of electromigration on the interfacial reactions of micro ball grid array (μBGA) solder joints was studied in terms of microstructural evolution. A dummy μBGA package with the same pair of solder joints was used to obtain reproducible results for a practical application.

Ba5Ti12Sb19+x, a polar intermetallic compound with a stuffed γ-brass structure

Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 2009
Abstract The polar intermetallic compound Ba5Ti12Sb19+x (x⩽0.2) has been synthesized by reaction of the elements. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that it adopts a new structure type (Ba5Ti12Sb19.102(6), space group P 4 3 ¯ m , Z=2, a=12.4223(11) A, V=1916.9(3) A3).

Study of New Ternary Rare-Earth Intermetallic Germanides with Polar Covalent Bonding

2020
The syntheses, structural characterizations and chemical bonding analyses for several ternary R–M–Ge (R = rare-earth metal; M = another metal) intermetallic compounds are reported. Each chapter of the thesis, the introductory ones part, is dedicated to the obtained achievements for a specific series of investigated compounds, which are: R2MGe6 (M= Li ...

Intermetallic Phases at the Cathodically Polarized Interface Platinum/Polycrystalline Yttria Stabilized Zirconia

Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1997
AbstractA deep cathodic polarization has been applied to a Platinum/Polycrystalline Yttria Stabilized Zirconia interface under low oxygen pressure. In the temperature range 973–1273 K the Electromotive Force recorded after the current cut off did not show any rest potential at a level corresponding to nucleation of a zirconium metal phase, likely ...

Effect of the Polarity of the III-V Intermetallic Compounds on Etching

Journal of Applied Physics, 1960
For the III-V intermetallic compounds, the <111> directions are polar axes. The shape of etch pits bounded by crystallographic planes and the presence or absence of pits at dislocations are influenced by the effect of the polar axes on the etch rates.

Spin and orbital polarization in layered rare-earth-manganese ternary intermetallic compounds

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2001
We report the results of ab initio energy-band calculations for the ternary intermetallic compound GdMn6Ge6. The ferrimagnetic arrangement of Gd and Mn magnetic sublattices is reproduced as well as the average moment per Mn atom. The comparatively low strength of the Gd-Mn effective exchange coupling and the occurrence of a weak orbital polarization (3%
