Forest anisotropy assessment by means of spatial variations analysis of PolSAR backscattering [PDF]
The possibility to synthesize polarization response from earth covers at any desired combination of transmit and receive antenna polarizations is the significant advantage of polarimetric radar.

Abstract Microphysical characteristics of warm‐rain precipitation that occurred in Fuzhou region during warm seasons of 2022 and 2023 have been investigated by using polarimetric radar data. Results of a modified warm‐rain identification algorithm indicate positive ZDR variation in the liquid layer should be added as a criterion to prevent events ...

We use active remote sensing from a ship during the EUREC4$$ {\mathrm{EUREC}}^4 $$A campaign to characterize the environment before, during, and after precipitation in shallow convection. (1) Shallow clouds barely precipitate (only virga). Congestus clouds generate precipitation, occurring less often in the afternoon but with higher cloud fractions. (2)

Bias Correction and Modified Profile Likelihood under the Wishart Complex Distribution
This paper proposes improved methods for the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation of the equivalent number of looks $L$. This parameter has a meaningful interpretation in the context of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) images.

SMAP Satellite Microwave Radiometry to Monitor River Flow and Lake Level in the Lower Mekong Basin
Abstract The NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive Mission (SMAP) satellite passive microwave radiometry (PMR) capability is demonstrated for measurements of river stage, river discharge, and lake level with in situ gauging data in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB).

Dual-polarization radar rainfall estimation in Korea according to raindrop shapes obtained by using a 2-D video disdrometer [PDF]
Polarimetric measurements are sensitive to the sizes, concentrations, orientations, and shapes of raindrops. Thus, rainfall rates calculated from polarimetric radar are influenced by the raindrop shapes and canting.

Perspectives on Systematic Cloud Microphysics Scheme Development With Machine Learning
Abstract Cloud microphysics—the collection of processes that govern the small‐scale formation, evolution, and interactions of liquid droplets and ice crystals in clouds and precipitation—remains a major source of uncertainty in weather and climate models.

On the statistics of differential phases in C-band weather radar [PDF]
Differential phases open a new parameter in polarimetric weather radar data analysis. In polarimetric S-matrices measured at the linear polarisation bases (vertical and horizontal) there exist basically three differential phases namely

Moving targets often appear defocused and displaced in SAR imagery, complicating detection and recognition—especially when displaced into cluttered regions, where signal‐to‐background ratio is reduced. This work presents a multistatic SAR framework that extracts moving target signatures and reconstructs focused images, providing new insights into the ...
