Polarimetric discriminators for SAR images

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1992
A method is developed for optimizing the degree of polarization of a partially polarized wave reflected by a nonstationary scattering object. The method permits, for a scattered wave and a given target characterized by its Mueller matrix, analytic computation of the maximum and minimum values of the degree of polarization, and the corresponding ...

On polarimetric SAR speckle filtering

2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2012
The advancement of SAR technology with high resolution and quad-polarization data demands better and efficient speckle filtering algorithms. In principle, filtering should be applied to distributed media only. Strong pointed targets should be kept unfiltered.

Airborne polarimetric SAR interferometry

IGARSS '98. Sensing and Managing the Environment. 1998 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Symposium Proceedings. (Cat. No.98CH36174), 1998
The authors show for first time the applicability of polarimetric interferometry techniques on high resolution interferometric scattering matrix airborne data. They point out the main requirements considering system hardware as well as data processing and calibration algorithms which are important for the polarimetric interferometric data evaluation ...

Modified polarimetric whitening filter for polarimetric SAR data

2013 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - IGARSS, 2013
To preserve the power information in the output of polarimetric whitening filter (PWF), a modified PWF is proposed for polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) imagery. Besides minimizing the standard deviation to mean ratio, the modified PWF also requires its output closest to the original polarimetric vector in a minimum mean-square error sense.

Single-baseline polarimetric SAR interferometry

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2001
Examines the application of single-baseline polarimetric SAR interferometry to the remote sensing and measurement of structure over forested terrain. For this, a polarimetric coherent scattering model for vegetation cover suitable for the estimation of forest parameters from interferometric observables is introduced, discussed and validated.

Polarimetric SAR image classification employing subaperture polarimetric analysis

Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005
Polarimetric SAR image classification remains an important research area. Various methods continue to be developed for specific applications. High-resolution polarimetric SAR systems and advances in computational and data storage capabilities have revived interest in novel polarimetric analysis techniques.

Analyzing polarimetric signatures for different features in polarimetric SAR data

2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014
The main idea of this research is to provide a graphical representation of various features in polarimetric SAR data. Returned signal from a target contain all polarizations whereas conventional method shows polarimetric information just in a restricted number of polarization bases.

Hierarchical segmentation of polarimetric SAR images

IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2003
A hierarchical stepwise optimization process is used for polarimetric SAR image segmentation. The process starts with small sets of pixels as segments and then sequentially merges the segment pair that minimises a stepwise criterion. The polarimetric information could be represented by a covariance matrix.

Polarimetric SAR Signature for Crop Characterization

2021 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium IGARSS, 2021
In contrast to the widely used van Zyl received wave polarimetric signature, the Touzi scattered wave signature in term of the total power ( $S$ 0 ), and the degree of polarization ( $p$ ) is also helpful for target characterization. Although, the van Zyl polarimetric signature includes the contribution of So, and p, the explicit consideration of the ...
