Fluctuation polarimetry

Optics Letters, 2012
We examine the relationship between the strength of the intensity fluctuations and the polarimetric properties of a random electromagnetic field composed of a Gaussian, random field, and nonrandom field, and we present a method for determining the state of polarization of the Gaussian random field.

Polarimetry of Mars

Applied Optics, 1969
A summary of results of observations of the polarization of Mars shows that surface pressure determinations from these data have not yielded satisfactory results in spite of the extensive number of observations available. It is suggested that the difficulty lies mainly in the neglect of radiative components resulting from a combination of diffuse ...

COmpact Polarimetry Potentials

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
The goal of this study is to show the potential of a compact-ol SAR system for vegetation applications. Compact-pol concept has been suggested to minimize the system design while maximize the information and is declined as the pi/4, pi/2 and hybrid modes.

Stochastic Scattering Polarimetry

Physical Review Letters, 2008
We introduce the general concept of stochastic scattering polarimetry and demonstrate that the anisotropic polarizability of a scattering object can be obtained by analyzing the statistical moments of polarimetrically measured intensity distributions.

GRB Polarimetry with POET

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
POET (Polarimeters for Energetic Transients) represents a concept for a Small Explorer (SMEX) satellite mission, whose principal scientific goal is to understand the structure of GRB sources through sensitive X‐ray and γ‐ray polarization measurements.

Imaging polarimetry of the rainbow

Applied Optics, 2003
Using imaging polarimetry, we measured the polarization patterns of a rainbow on the shore of the Finnish town of Oulu in July 2001. We present here high-resolution color-coded maps of the spatial distributions of the degree and angle of linear polarization of the rainbow in the red (650 +/- 30 nm), green (550 +/- 30 nm), and blue (450 +/- 30 nm ...

PROTON POLARIMETRY AT RHIC

Deep Inelastic Scattering DIS 2006, 2005
The techniques used to measure precisely the polarization of the proton beams at RHIC are presented and discussed. Fast polarization measurements are performed using polarimeters based on pC elastic scattering. The absolute normalization is provided by a polarized hydrogen gas jet target. During the 2004 polarized proton run a relative precision on the
