Polish Climate Policy Narratives: Uniqueness, Alternative Pathways, and Nascent Polarisation

open access: yesPolitics and Governance, 2021
European Union (EU) climate politics have polarised over the past decade. Poland especially stands out as the EU member state that has most vehemently opposed numerous decisions to increase the EU’s level of ambition, stirring some turbulence in EU ...

Polarisation Vision: Beetles See Circularly Polarised Light [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2010
It has long been known that the iridescent cuticle of many scarab beetles reflects circularly polarised light. It now turns out that scarabs can also see this light, potentially using it as a covert visual signal.

The polarisation of auroral emissions: A tracer of the E region ionospheric currents

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2022
It is now established that auroral emissions as measured from the ground are polarised. The question of the information given by this polarisation is still to be explored.

Circularly polarised antenna withswitchable polarisation sense

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2000
The authors present the design of a wideband circularly polarised antenna with switchable polarisation sense. The basic antenna is a circularly polarised aperture coupled patch antenna with a slot excitation located along the diagonal of a rectangular patch.

Spectrally narrow polarisation conversion in a slow-light photonic crystal waveguide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2009
A narrow-band (3 dB bandpass < 2 nm) transmission notch based on polarisation conversion within a SOI photonic crystal waveguide is demonstrated. Signal contrast between quasi-TE and TM eigenstates exceeding 40 dB is achieved.

Ideological Polarisation in the Venezuelan Presidential Crisis

open access: yesCritical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines, 2022
Since January 2019, the presidency of Venezuela has been disputed between Nicolás Maduro and Juan Guaidó. Both leaders claim their legitimacy over the office of the President, and both have been recognised by different countries and international ...

Teleportation of continuous variable polarisation states [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper discusses methods for the optical teleportation of continuous variable polarisation states. We show that using two pairs of entangled beams, generated using four squeezed beams, perfect teleportation of optical polarisation states can be ...

Vacuum Polarisation and the Black Hole Singularity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
In order to investigate the effects of vacuum polarisation on mass inflation singularities, we study a simple toy model of a charged black hole with cross flowing radial null dust which is homogeneous in the black hole interior.
