Polarization sensitive holographic interferometer

Optics Communications, 1994
Abstract An interferometric device is presented that uses the hologram of a point source to implement the Young experiment in a tunable fashion, and with sensitivity to polarization. The optical setup works as a null test for birefringence and it can be used to visualize birefringent variations, on an object under test, or for setting a wavefront ...

Polarization-Sensitive Imaging Arrays

MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2005
Two different monolithic imaging arrays have been developed that image polarization as well as intensity at near-millimeter wavelengths. One array is a row of linearly polarized bow-tie antennas that lean alternately left and right. This array has measured the polarization with a precision of 7 arc-minutes, and has demonstrated diffraction-limited ...

Polarization Sensitivity in Birds

2004
Birds can use several environmental cues — sun, stars, geomagnetic field, wind direction, odours, landmarks, sound sources, patterns of the intensity, colour and polarization of skylight — for orientation and navigation (Schmidt-Koenig 1979). Until now, only the homing pigeon (Columba livia) has been shown convincingly to possess a sun compass.

Polarization Sensitivity in Crustaceans

2004
To our knowledge, the first animals in which polarization sensitivity has been demonstrated were certain entomostracan crustaceans (Verkhovskaya 1940) and the horseshoe crab Limulus ( Waterman 1950). However, so far the behavioural or ecological significance of this ability in these arthropods is unknown.

Polarization Sensitivity in Reptiles

2014
Somewhat questionable evidence in support of reptilian polarization sensitivity (PS) has come from field and laboratory observations on the behaviour of a few species of marine and freshwater turtles. More convincing are conclusions based on PS-aided orientation in the lizards Uma notata, Tiliqua rugosa and Podarcis sicula.

Ingredients of Polarity Sensitivity

2013
AbstractThis chapter will take up two types of bipolar items in Japanese to identify various factors that contribute to polarity sensitivity. It has been well known since Fauconnier (1975) that scalar semantics is closely related to licensing of negative polarity items.
