Terahertz polarization-division multiplexing within a four-wire waveguide

2022 Photonics North (PN), 2022
We demonstrate a new metal-wire waveguide topology, namely a four-wire waveguide, which simultaneously acts as a broadband terahertz polarization-division multiplexer and as a novel platform to realize the independent manipulation of polarization-division multiplexed terahertz signals.

Incompatibility of polarization-division multiplexing with wavelength-division multiplexing in soliton-transmission systems

Optics Letters, 1998
In a recent experiment it was demonstrated that polarization-division multiplexing was incompatible with wavelength-division multiplexing. We discuss a theoretical model that explains this result.

An experiment of de-multiplexing for polarization division multiplexing system by PSO algorithm

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
We report an experiment of de-multiplexing automatically in a polarization division multiplexing system using a DSP based de-multiplexer. The searching algorithm was a modified Particle Swarm Optimization. We successfully demonstrated the de-multiplexing scheme both in a 20-Gb/s PolMux-NRZ-OOK system and a 40-Gb/s PolMux-RZ-DQPSK system.

Visible light communications: increasing data rates with polarization division multiplexing

Optics Letters, 2020
In this Letter, we propose a new configuration for visible light communication systems, which results in doubling of the data rate due to the use of polarization division multiplexing. As light-emitting diodes are unpolarized incoherent light sources, we isolate both the perpendicular s and parallel p modes for

Crosstalk detection schemes for polarization division multiplex transmission

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2001
Polarization division multiplex (PolDM) is a bandwidth-efficient and sensitive modulation format suitable for upgrading bandwidth-limited trunk lines. We show how control signals for polarization demultiplex can be obtained efficiently. For interleaved return-to-zero (RZ) signals, incoherent crosstalk has to be detected and minimized.

Polarization-division multiplexing based multi-function lidar system

2018 23rd Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference (OECC), 2018
We demonstrate a flexible multi-function lidar system based on polarization-division multiplexing (PDM), in which simultaneous ranging and velocimetry are achieved. With slight modifications, the lidar system can also be used for other functions.

Cross-Polarization Modulation in Polarization-Division Multiplex Transmission

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2010
We show theoretically and with the aid of computer simulations that the nonlinear depolarization induced by cross-polarization modulation leads to crosstalk between the polarization-division multiplex (PolDM) subchannels during their demultiplexing. This additive crosstalk can be approximated as additive Gaussian noise, and we derive expressions to ...

Robust Carrier Recovery in Polarization Division Multiplexed Receivers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012
We present a novel carrier recovery which can track fast and large sinusoidal frequency oscillations of commercially available lasers and efficiently compensate for laser noise. Q gain of 0.8 dB is recorded in offline experiments.

Optical polarization division multiplexing at 4 Gb/s

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1992
An optical polarization multiplexing system using BPSK coherent heterodyne detection to transmit 4 Gb/s over a 45-km standard single-mode fiber optical link at a receiver sensitivity of -35 dBm is described. The 4-Gb/s system has a potential receiver sensitivity of -40 dBm while using 2-Gb/s baseband electronics. >

Multifunction Lidar System Based on Polarization-Division Multiplexing

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
A multifunction lidar system is proposed based on polarization-division multiplexing, by which the distance, velocity, and depolarization ratio of a target can be simultaneously measured. The key component of the lidar system is a polarization-division multiplexing dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (PDM-DMZM).
