Polarization aberrations in three dimensions
Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1992To some degree, all optical systems affect the polarization of light passing through them. When this instrumental polarization adversely affects the performance of the system (e.g., the classic Maltese cross artifact in the polarizing microscope), it is said to possess polarization aberrations.

Polarization Aberrations In Optical Systems
SPIE Proceedings, 1987This paper examines the polarization aberrations in optical systems of isotropic radially symmetric weak polarizers in the paraxial approximation. Optical systems which fit this description are composed of uncoated and coated lenses and mirrors. Polarization aberrations are variations in phase, amplitude, and polarization state of the electromagnetic ...

Polarization aberrations are variations of the intensity and polarization in the exit pupil of an optical beam and of the dependence of these aberrations on the field position of the object. Most optical systems display variations of intensity and polarization across the pupil due to the range of angles of incidence present at each surface.

Polarization Aberrations Of An Overhead Projector
SPIE Proceedings, 1989Polarization aberrations are variations of the instrumental polarization associated with different ray paths through an optical system. The polarization aberrations of an overhead projector are easily observed with two large sheets of Polaroid. The form of these polarization aberrations are described as functions of object and pupil coordinate and are ...

Polarization Aberrations Of Lenses
SPIE Proceedings, 1986Polarization aberrations are variations of intensity and polarization of an optical beam in the exit pupil of an optical system, and the dependence of these variations on the position of the object in the field. A set of functions has been derived to describe the low-order polarization aberrations of a symmetric optical system.

Balancing polarization aberrations in crossed fold mirrors
Applied Optics, 2015The polarization aberrations of a fold mirror can be compensated by orienting a second fold mirror's p-polarization with the first mirror's s-polarization. This crossed-mirror configuration compensates the polarization for a single angle to zero and leaves a linear variation of diattenuation and retardance for a spherical wavefront. Two sets of crossed

Effect of the polarization on ocular wave aberration measurements
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2002Measurement of the eye's wave aberrations has become fairly standard in recent years. However, most studies have not taken into account the possible influence of the polarization state of light on the wave aberration measurements. The birefringence properties of the eye's optical components, in particular corneal birefringence, can be expected to have ...

Influence of polarization aberrations on point images
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2017In this paper, we derive Maréchal-type approximations for the unpolarized imaging of points in the presence of small retardation and diattenuation. As the representation of such polarization aberrations is ambiguous in general, we show the independence of the results on choices and suggest modified definitions.

Berry Phase and Polarization Aberration
Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015As polarized light propagates through optical systems, the state folds at each refraction. Carrying the polarization state through the optical system leads to different Berry phase accumulation along different paths. Examples of this polarization aberration on the PSF and OTF are presented.
